I am posting on behalf of an elderly friend who is 78. She has just received an email (to her sole email account) saying her account is permanently suspended. I have just spoken to Ebay customer support on her behalf and they confirm that the account was created in January 2024 and that she has never made any purchases or sold anything. The customer representative Judith said that they couldn't disclose details of why the account was suspended which I find unbelievable. Judith refused to disclose her last name or pass me to a supervisor; she said that she had made notes, she couldnt say why the account was suspended, and then she hung up. I find it frustrating and annoying that an elderly person could be a victim of a suspension (or a possible scam?) with no explanation. Ebay - why can you not disclose the reason for the suspension?

Ebay simply don't reveal why an account has been permanently suspended, even with the account holder.
There are various reasons why an account might be permanently suspended - sometimes it is linked to another account or family member who is given a permanent ban.

Adding to the correct advice given, unfortunately once a permanent suspension has been handed out, there's no comeback, the person involved may never sell again on eBay, though their account may be still open for buying.

To be honest, as you are not the registered account holder I can't believe that eBay CS went ahead and discussed this with you at all, they should not have done that.
