First time since ebay 'improved'. Item has sold; I see"buyer requests total price"; somewhere I saw a buyers protection fee had been added to what I was the highest; I see no link or anything as to what tp do next.

The buyer should have all the info they need in order to pay - unless they bought multiple items, or their address is outside the UK and that postage was not on your listing.

You as seller co nothing, buyer knows what to pay. You will be able to see a breakdown of what is paid, which will include the buyer protection fee, but ebay keeps that so further down it is deducted to arrive at the amount you actually receive.

It isn't clear why your buyer is requesting a total price.
If it's the home security system, the selling price and eBay's buyer protection fee are both stated in the listing.
Your delivery costs may have confused the buyer. You have offered free collection in person from your home, or different delivery costs for click and collect or delivery to the buyer's home. Basically the total payable will depend upon the buyer's choice.
Assuming that your buyer's address is in the UK there's nothing more that he needs to know. If he lives outside the UK (includng the Channel Isles or thr isle of Man) it would be up to him to check any additional charges or VAT payable.
