I sold an item for £18.60 + BP for £1.38 which totalled £19.98
I want to give a refund of £5 of 19.98
but when I try to issue a refund The total is showing £18.60, if I were to refund £5 would that be £5 of 18.60 0r 19.98
how do i refund so the buyer receives a £5 discount only

As I had suspected, I was correct and others should not reply with ignorance
I refunded £4.65, eBay refunded £0.35 buyer protection and total refunded £5
When I Know go back, there is no indiction of how much I actually refunded, just the total
This is a clear Glitch and part of the ongoing Buyer Protection subterfuge, manipulative marketing.
The irony is that in these part refund scenarios, not only does the seller lose, but Ebay also loses: "own Goal"

Why are you refunding?
What has happened so far?
If the buyer has opened a case, you can offer a partial refund or you can refund the buyer in full.

we agreed a partial refund of 25% (£5) , but the total is now showing exclusive of buyer protection, what is the right amount

If you have agreed on £5 just refund that amount. I believe ebay automatically refunds the same% of the buyer protection fee.

i think it should be £4.65 and ebay refunds the 35p buyer protection fee
Before anyone says its just a small amount, IKNOW, i want to understand how this works for future
