Buyer states item is faulty but after 30 days

Hi, just trying to see where I stand as ebay help is running me around in circles. A buyer has messaged 36 days after collecting an item (small kitchen appliance), saying it is faulty. I am a private seller, Question is am I obliged to offer a refund or partial refund or should I wait for them to escalate to ebay?

Buyer states item is faulty but after 30 days

Buyers only have 30 days to open a valid claim on ebay.   After that they may start a case but won't be able to escalate for a refund.
