The sellers item is collection only - can I pay a courier ( Royal Mail ) to pick it up for me ? and how would this affect my rights to return it if not happy with it ?

Sellers do not have to agree to courier collection, ask 1st.

If they agree, you lose any ebay MBG protection.

Are you going to pay them for packaging?

no not paying for any extra for wrapping .is only a small item [ iphone] but its worth 475 pounds -courier cover is upto 750 -but you say I would lose ALL eBay guarantees??!

If the seller is offering collection only and no postage option (which is odd for a small item), then clearly they want it collected in person.

You should have a 6 digit code that you let the seller have when you go to collect the iPhone, the seller is not going to hand it over without that.
