VAT Registration Delay – Will This Affect My Selling Account?

Hi eBay Community,

We received a notification from eBay requiring us to register for VAT, and we submitted our VAT registration application to HMRC the very next day. We were issued an application reference number, and it's now been almost a month — but we still haven't received our VAT number.

We understand the importance of complying with VAT regulations and have fulfilled our responsibility promptly. However, the delay is from HMRC’s side, and unfortunately, it's beyond our control.

We’re hopeful the VAT number will be issued soon, but in the meantime, could you please confirm:

Will this delay affect our selling performance or account standing on eBay?

Are there any temporary steps we should take until the VAT number is issued?

We want to remain fully compliant and continue operating smoothly.

Thank you for your guidance and support.

Best regards,

VAT Registration Delay – Will This Affect My Selling Account?

Hi @mistymorningstore ,

Thank you for your post.

If you have received notification requiring your VAT details, your account will remain restricted until the VAT number is provided. No activity can take place on the account. The listings will not be ended but you will not be able to edit them or create new ones.

As soon as you have the VAT number you can update your account and once it has been verified the restriction is usually removed within a 48 hour period.

Thank you,

Kat
