Buyer is asking for a refund for a received item.

I listed earbuds as new with a caveat that I had tried them in my ears just once.  The buyer is asking for a refund to cover the cleaning of the earbuds because they had wax on them.  Buyer has sent me photos of earbuds with wax on them.  Now, buyer is asking for a refund of £20 - £25  (paid £67 + £4.29 postage).  I dispute that a refund of that amount is a fair amount and would appreciate any other opinions on this.  I would prefer to have the buds returned to me and obviously, I would pay the return postage.

Buyer is asking for a refund for a received item.

Ask the buyer to open a return through Ebay.

You will have to pay to get the item back and then refund the buyer once you receive them.
