Without a credit card to prove that you're over 18 you won't be able to make your purchase on eBay.

How stupid can you get? I am 72yrs old trying to buy a part for a lawnmower, hardly an offensive weapon.
Thankyou for your time and consideration in replying.

Proof of age is a legal matter.

Other sites have same rules when buying bladed items, not just ebay.

Yes I understand and even agree, but why is a credit card the only way of establishing age? Also a lawnmower blade is a blade in name only as regards its potential use as a weapon.
Thanks again

Other sites allow different forms of ID, ebay only allow credit card.

I agree mower blade is not that dangerous, but it comes under "Blade" policy.

Not sure about that considering what John Wick managed to do with just a pencil, but I understand where you're coming from.

However, this is a legal requirement, not an eBay decision.

You have to be 18 to have a credit card, so this is a good way to verify somebody's age. A child may have a debit card, which is why that can't be used.
