Technically this should be simple but I can not find anywhere to get a refund from eBay.
Damaged item received,seller not responding,it’s been a week…..
Item is a mirror,it is smashed into shards. Am I expected to post this back? It could give a delivery driver/postman an injury.

You can't have tried very hard. There is a link to eBay's money back guarantee in every listing, or see: https://pages.ebay.co.uk/ebay-money-back-guarantee/
The requirement to return the item doesn't apply to items which would be dangerous or not allowed to return, which is the case with broken glass. Hopefully the seller will accept the refund without asking for it to be returned - he would have to pay for it anyway! If any problems you may need to contact eBay customer support to explain.

You open an eBay return and select 'Arrived damaged' as the reason, you add a photo of the mirror in it's packaging.
Both eBay and your seller can then see that it did indeed arrive damaged.

As advised, you do have to start a return using the reason 'damaged in transit'.
That begins the process of you getting a refund. It is very unlikely that you will be expected to return the item but without a proper open case, the seller won't have to take any action and you will have a boxful of glass and no refund.
To request a return, select the item you want to send back from your recent purchases above, or use the button below. You can also start a return request from your Purchases in My eBay.
