30 day money back window

Does anybody know when the 30 day window opens, for a collection only item?

I only ask, because the eBay policy document seems to suggest that it only opens when you have collected the item.

This does not correspond with my experience of the process, however, as eBay in their infinite wisdom (insert another word here), decided that the window for my "collection only" item started the second I paid for it.

A problem then arises, when you are unable to collect the item, as the seller will not respond to your messages, and will not communicate with you at all.

So, when you're struggling with health issues, you really need the item you have paid for, and you foolishly wait the full 30 days before contacting eBay for help, only to be told that you've missed the window by 2 hours, because it started the day you paid for the item, well.... that wrangles somewhat, I'll have to say.

It does open a number of questions though.....

1 - why does eBay offer a potentially much longer window to buyers using a delivery option? - 30 days from estimated delivery date.

2 - If you make a payment, that eBay will hold until the item is marked as collected, and you never receive any goods, as you technically haven't bought anything, is the charging of a buyer protection fee fraudulent and illegal, or just immoral?

3 - what protection do you actually get from the buyer protection fee, that you are compelled to pay?

eBay policy uses the phrase "We'll look into it and find a fair solution" - well that's nice.

4 - If the seller will never receive the payment until you give them the collection code, (another safety feature to protect the buyers money), and you can't collect the item, and thus can't give them the collection code, then eBay is only holding your money temporarily, as such, can their refusal to return it to you be regarded as theft?

How about all these too? - How Greedy are they? - How low can they go? - Will they ever take responsibility or accountability? - Do they care in the slightest for anybody else? (add your own gripe here)

My advice is this - Never trust a seller, never trust eBay, and find another platform if you can, vote with your feet, and walk away from this rotting mess.

24 years on the platform, 100% positive over thousands of transactions, and this is how they treat me?

What would you do? - I think this is the end for me......

If you're unable to collect your item within 30 days and your seller won't refund, you need to open an eBay item not received claim within 30 days of payment to get your money back.

Without the collection code, the seller still receives the payment, but may have to wait 30 days.

It is not really a scam.

I do feel sympathetic for your particular circumstances, but most buyers would not wait 30 days to open a case when the seller was not responding.

If you have not done so already, you should contact your payment provider as you have purchased goods online and not received them.

Most banks give you a period of 120 days to start a payment dispute/chargeback.
