Refund postage on charity sales

The current inability to send an invoice & in particular a combined postage one has created a new problem. I made a part postage refund today to a buyer of two items. Instead of taking this refund from the postage that I charged it took the bulk of the money off the sale price of the items. 100% of these proceeds were going to a local hospice.  This has meant that I am currently benefitting personally as eBay should have taken the money from my postage part of the sale price. I spent some time explaining this to an agent this afternoon and he is making a report. Until they solve or change the initial problem of us not being able to invoice buyers this second problem is going to be ongoing.

The refund would come from your available processing and on hold funds.

Refund postage on charity sales

As in this eBay account I only sell items where 100% of the sale price of an item goes to charity I can see from the listing of the queried item that they have taken the bulk of the postage refund from the charity pot of money and not from my eBay balance which is made up of all the postage charges. If the refund was higher than my original charge then it could understand they would have to use some of the charity’s money but it wasn’t

You originally said the money had come from your sale balance not your postage!!

Prior to the arrival of eBay balance the total sale price ie item value + postage was credited to my bank account and then I had the choice of manually arranging a transfer of the item value excluding postage to PayPal/charity or letting the system automatically arrange the transfer. Then you could provide a combined postage invoice & this problem did not exist.
Today when I organised a part refund of postage the eBay page actually showed that the major part of the refund was being taken from the actual sold price of the item ie the charity’s money and not from the funds - postage- being added to my eBay balance.

You may benefit by using ebay charity options, eBay for Charity

*this doesn’t I am afraid solve the problem. Take this mornings example. A buyer bought three items and I needed to refund £3.50.  The ultimate sale price is made up of three elements - eBay’s bpf which they receive- the cost I charged for the post & packing  which goes to my eBay balance and the actual price for the item. This morning EBay took 90p from my eBay balance and £2.60 from the price of the item which should have gone 100% to our local hospice as opposed to them taking the whole amount from my eBay balance pot ( which has £90+ of withdraw-able funds in it.  If I had been able to raise a combined invoice in the first place this wouldn’t have happened. I have lodged a systems fault query with eBay
