Selling abroad

I have recently sold an item for £400 to a buyer in Spain. I posted immediately and have proof of postage. Buyer complained that he had to pay customs duties. He then complained he hadn't received the item. I contacted Ebay UK twice who assured me that the dispute would be found in my favour. Now Ebay Spain have found in his favour and are debiting me £400. What else could I have done? It's put me off using Ebay full stop.

Buyer should have expected to pay import duty in Spain. Failure to pay duty should invalidate the money back guarantee.

If item has not been delivered it should eventually get back to you.

Did you use eBay's Global Shipping Programme?   If so if it shows delivery to the UK Global shipping hub according to Global T&Cs you are not responsible for loss in transit once it has arrived at the UK hub.   So get back onto eBay and tell them to refund your money.  You can use callback on here:

Can you go to the detailed tracking status and copy and paste it/screenshot it here please (leaving out any personal info).

What we're looking for is some kind of indication that the buyer didn't bother paying the customs fee.
