Item Damaged By Courier - How do I claim my costs for damaged item?

I have sold an item on eBay.

The item left me in very good condition and well packed.

On receiving the item, the customer complained that it was damaged. Backed up by pictures.

Looking at the damage, it could have ONLY been done by the couriers. Slamming into it with a powered pallet truck or forklift truck. Item is made of metal and would've taken considerable force to damage like that.

Buyer has requested to return the item for a refund, which I did - even though it was sold on a 'no returns' basis (for what's that's worth with eBay's 'buyer guarantee'.

What sis the correct procedure to claiming the damage from eBay/courier?..

It is an expensive item (£300!) and I am out of pocket for someone else's incompetence and mishandling abuse. After being FORCED to use eBay's dire new 'easy' posting system.

If you sent the item with Simple Delivery and the buyer opens a return using the reason 'damaged in transit', Ebay will handle the claim, refund the buyer, and pass the buyer's payment to you.

Funds (£300) were deducted from MY account.

Just double checked. Buyer has marked it as 'Arrived Damaged' not as Damaged in Transit.

Which item was it - I can't see a recent sale for that amount?

Did they open a return case?

Did you provide a label?

Have you had the item back and then voluntarily refunded?

Was it this item?

Akrapovic Suzuki GSXR 1000 750 600 K1 K2 K3 K4 Bolt On Titanium Exhaust Can

That was not sent using Simple Delivery - possibly because of the size.

If it was that item, you will have to make a claim against the courier.  Generally, you have a fairly short time frame to start a claim.  Ebay won't compensate you for an item damaged in transit when you bought the postage from your own choice of courier.

How did you send it and what have you done so far?

I have sent it with the courier options eBay has provided.

When the buyer complained it arrived damaged I assured him it was NOT sent out in that condition and instructed them to raise a claim with eBay, return it and I can take it up with eBay. I have had very bad experiences as a seller in the past when eBay automatically dide with hhe buyer, take the guns out of MY account and let the buyer keep the item!

Buyer has then gone on holiday for two weeks before returning it!

How I wish that awful 'easy' postage was fine away with and sellers can take control of their items again!

If it was the item I asked about, it looks as if you sent that one with a label that you paid for, rather than a Simple Delivery label bought directly from Ebay by the buyer.

You haven't said which courier you used but you needed to raise a claim with the courier - Ebay only compensate the buyer when you use a Simple Delivery label. As I said, the item I think it was - which you haven't confirmed - looks too big to have been sent with Royal mail or Evri using Simple Delivery.

If you bought the label through Ebay, then you start your claim through Packlink - see the link below.  But, you do have to claim from the carrier who delivered your parcel, not Ebay.  However, they do state you have to claim within 7 days of delivery date so you may be out of time.
