I have asked ebay to remove the option as anyone who uses it is opening yourself up to any buyer saying they havent recieved an item. There is no tracking even though a number is provided, ebay will automaticaly after a period of time refund the buyer.
Insurance with royal mail has a maximum of £20, so bear this in mind when sending something of more value.
As a seller i had been offering it but ultimately the buyer can pay what they want for the delivery so them agreeing to the 0.85p is the buyers risk not the sellers.
But we as the seller are the ones who loose out even though we have proof of deliverybat post office. Claim it back through insurance you say ! Yes but the buyer can also do that for items that they have ordered and saying havent arrived. Remember the buyer agreed the delivery with the price they agreed to pay. EBAY why are us as sellers having to refund ?
Sold a card with 0.85 postage over three weeks after posting and having proof, buyer puts in a havent recieved request. Its only £3.50 and its only the 2nd time its happened in over 200 cards sold but i can wave by to that money when ebay refund it. Take this as a warning next time it could be more costly !!!

Unless you send tracked and it shows as delivered, you always have to refund buyer if they claim not received.
It's always a difficult decision with low value items whether to send tracked or not.

I would not ever send anything if not tracked even a low value. Everytime your open to a refund regardless. As i expalined the buyer can pay more they choose not to, seller puts a postage amount as a recommendation if the buyer pays it they are agreeing to it not being tracked. Why are the sellers losing out and not the buyer ?

So do you send tracked or not?
Buyers will always choose the cheapest option but that doesn't remove their ability to use the money back guarantee.

I send tracked from today always !! Previously i offered the 0.85p option and in the last couple of weeks i have two customers say they havent recieved them. Even though i have the post office scan the item when i send it and i have proof.
On both occasions ebay have refunded them and i have lost money and the item.
My argument is the buyer chose to send it on the 0.85 they could have paid more for tracking why am i having to loose out.

Buyers are protected by eBay MBG, so will always choose cheapest option if you give it.

Because these are the conditions you accepted in the user agreement.
It doesn't matter how much or how little the buyer pays for delivery; if an item doesn't arrive or arrives damaged, eBay makes the seller responsible for refunding them in full. Tracking and insurance are for the seller's benefit, not the buyer's.
It's better not to give buyers a choice - just specify the service which you think is the most appropriate.
