The postage clearly states that Royal Mail 2nd class for 0.87 but when I request label it gives me yodel for 2.87 . Why can I not choose my own carrier. Yodel is not wanted

If you are using Simple Delivery then you are only able to use your own postage for Exempt items.

If you are selling an exempt item, on the listing form it will offer CUSTOM POSTAGE.  Only a few categories will offer this the main thing being items up to £20/100mg. The exempt categories are mostly small collectables.

You don't have to buy your postage from Ebay.

Take your parcel to the Post Office and post from there buying postage at the counter.

You may have undercharged the buyer.  87p is the cost for a letter which has to be 5mm or smaller.  I am not sure a CD in a padded envelope will go as a letter.
