Buyer opened item not received but hasn't given chance for it to be delivered

This has happened a couple of times now in the past couple of months. I have a 2 day dispatch time and I always post during this 2 day window. The latest one, a buyer purchased an item on Tuesday, chose 2nd Class Royal Mail as postage option. I posted on Thursday at my local Post Office but today (Monday) only 6 days after the initial sale they are able to open an item not received case, not requesting a refund but stating the item "never arrived" and they still want the item.

How do other sellers deal with this when not using tracked service?
And how come Ebay allows them to open an item not received case so quickly before it's even had chance to be delivered?

These items are very cheap, mostly £1-2 so no one uses tracked service for these normally

Any feedback will be much appreciated

Ebay allow buyers to open an INR case one day after the latest estimated delivery date.  The EDDs can be quite unrealistic and give the buyer false expectations.

If I bought a card from you now (nearly 7pm), the EDD shows as Estimated between Wed, 11 Jun and Thu, 12 Jun to ...  .  So, by Friday, the item would be late and I could open a case.

Maybe extend your posting time by a day or change your working days so the EDD becomes a bit more reasonable?

To add.

If posting untracked, you will never be be able to prove delivery.

You have 3 days to refund before case can be escalated and ebay force refund.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware that's how it worked but I think I might have to extend the dispatch time and hopefully that will help

Thank you
