I have recently sold two listed items on a buy it now auction . Unfortunately, on each occasion i received an offer and before I took any action  the item automatically sold without any input from myself . Has anyone else experienced this problem ? Thanks

Looks like you have selected a certain minimum amount when offered,  than that offer is accepted,  and buyer can  pay to secure the item.
