Question Regarding Unjustified Return Request

Hi everyone,

I recently sold an item listed as "Parts Only" or "Not Working". The buyer has now opened a return request stating the item is "Not Working," which was clearly mentioned in my listing.

Since the item's condition was fully disclosed, I believe this return request is unfair. Unfortunately, there’s no option to decline the return request.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation before? What’s the best way to handle this, and should I contact eBay support directly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Question Regarding Unjustified Return Request

If a case for item not as described is opened, you will have to accept the case within 3 days.  Cases are all automated no point challenging it at that point.

If you want the item back,  pay for a fully tracked return postage,  and only refund through those case details,  when the item is back with you.  You will have 48 hours to do so.

Stick within those timelines,  and your seller performance will not be affected.

If you think the refund was unjustly granted,  and the buyer has abused eBay's 30 day MBG,  Money Back Guarantee policy,  you can appeal the decision.  I won't lie, it's not always easy,  and does favour the buyer in most cases.

This explains the appeal process:

If it was the drill, then the buyer can quote from the AI description of the item:

'It is a hammer drill designed for drilling into concrete and stone. The drill ... is a reliable and efficient tool for any construction or DIY project.

The drill is suitable for various drilling tasks, including those that require precision and accuracy. It is a great addition to any toolkit and is perfect for those who need a powerful and durable drill for their work. This Hilti TE15 Rotary Hammer Drill is ideal for business, office, and industrial use, and it is a must-have for any professional who wants to get the job done right.'

You have three recent sales for parts/not working.  On all of them the AI generated description very much implies they do work, you need to accept the return and write your own descriptions in future.

Question Regarding Unjustified Return Request

Only eBay could have AI that describes an item listed as for parts or not working as "reliable and efficient".

eBay already allows sellers to copy and use the photos from another seller's listing. Coupled with ludicrous AI descriptions, it means that photos today may not even be of the actual item the seller is selling, and the description may have been written by a computer.

Does nobody at eBay join up the dots to realise that this may not be a good idea?

Question Regarding Unjustified Return Request

“I recently sold an item listed as "Parts Only" or "Not Working".”

If you cannot be bothered to write your own description, it is essential, as it tells you, to check and edit the AI description, to make sure it is accurate.

I have used AI but so much editing is required  to avoid misleading buyers, that it is simpler to do a brief accurate description yourself.

You have nothing to appeal, and losing an appeal can get you penalised by ebay and buyer can also leave appropriate feedback.
