Only an idiot would pay £200+ for a guitar when they don't know the maker. I recently called out an obviously counterfeit Gibson. It had no pictures of the whole guitar from the front. Looked quite nice, but was an obvious fake. I asked for details and was messaged a pic, which included the headstock, which had a Gibson logo. (No surprise it wasn't in any of the pics in the listing). Tut tut, ebay.

Ideally, ebay would require a pic of the headstock logo for any guitar. That would prevent or demonstrate fraud. Ideally the police would be on this, but that's more than the cops have resources for and, of course, ebay are making money from the fraud, so won't bother.

My word of warning, therefore is, don't buy a guitar that's not got a logo showing. Dead giveaway for a counterfeit piece of MDF, with a smart veneer, uneven frets, and rubbish hardware and electronics. Likely to be unplayable. If you want that, there's someting wrong with you. See a psychiatrist.

Do you have a question?

There are always fakes and scams on eBay - eBay itself even warns buyers in the user agreement that "they do not guarantee the existence, quality, safety or legality of items advertised, or the truth or accuracy of descriptions". Who would buy a guitar here without checking it out carefully?

Some people do, of course. eBay's policy is that they can't and don't attempt to scrutinise listings, which are the responsibility of the seller, but they do provide what in most cases is strong protection  for the buyer if  an item they receive is not as described.

eBay will not accept reports from ordinary members that an item is counterfeit, instead they suggest they members report it to the brand owner, in this case Gibson. For further information see: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-policies/selling-policies/intellectual-property-vero-pr...
