Simple delivery and packlink

I sent a dress via evri mid september using simple delivery and ebays recommended parcel size. 

I have now received an excess postage charge from packlink as they say the courier has said the parcel was heavier than the label allowed.

Firstly how does packlink get involved and secondly I thought that if you used ebays recommendation, you would be covered? I have only ever changed the recommended weight upwards ie if ebay suggest 1kg and I know the item weighs over that. 

I have contacted packlink and they advise that I must pay. There used to be a bit in the guidance that ebay would cover any excess cost if you used the recommended, but this seems to have disappeared. 

Anyone else had this charge?

Which item was it?

If you use Simple Delivery, Packlink are not involved as you don't buy the label from them.

The buyer pays Ebay and you print a prepaid label.

Unless you didn't use the label and actually bought a new label from Ebay, Packlink have nothing to do with postage.

A Packlink label isn't a Simple Delivery label, that's when you buy a label direct from eBay.

But I've sold at least a dozen items of clothing in the last month - why is this one different? And how do I know what is sd and what is packlink. Ebay have been saying for months sd is mandatory and that's what I thought I was using.

Doesn't that statement refer to when simple delivery was first being trialled and only the clothing category was available?

As far as i know when simple delivery was extended this year Packlink were no longer involved with the labels.

Update - I have looked into this further and it seems that I was paid the postage cost from the buyer - I dont know how. I then created the label  from the email Ebay sent me, as I usually do with SD, only it purchased a packlink label instead which I then paid for. Because it created an Evri label, I had no idea it was different from the norm

I dont know how this happened - Simple Delivery was mandatory on clothing from 15th April and that is what I have used every time but for some reason I can only assume there was a glitch which reverted this 1 item back to pre-SD

I have emailed Ebay to see what response I get from them.

if you did buy from Packlink, using the buyer's payment, then I am afraid you will have to pay the excess.

I'm sure I will. However I've queried with ebay how it could happen. Sd is mandatory on clothing and has been for a while. I used their recommended parcel size when listing and did nothing different from the norm. I understand that when you buy a label from packlink, you enter the size and weight of the parcel. I didn't have any of that at the time - it would have made me query it because it wasnt normal. So it's worrying that this can occur without the seller being aware and I'm hit with an excess charge

I have tonight sold a tie. The buyer has selected royal mail. When I go to download the label, it does not mention simple delivery but it does mention packlink and tells me to buy a tracked service. I'm going to cancel the order because I'm not going to be hit with another charge when I'm listing items with simple delivery. It doesn't make sense why this is happening. 

Ps no point in contacting ebay - last time they told me to deal with packlink,  packlink told me to deal with ebay. I got nowhere with either

The tie was not sold with simple delivery, you selected RM 2nd class.

I don't think clothes can be sold with simple delivery

I practically only sell clothes and every time it goes through simple delivery. I have just done a dummy listing for a tie and it came up with simple delivery as the postage option. I have also sold another item of clothing, buyer has selected rm and that is going through simple delivery.
