You haven't 'lost' three items. You have sold them and been paid for them.
If the buyer opens a claim and says the item was received damaged, then Ebay refund them and they get to keep the damaged item, which may well be worth less than they paid you.
Some items might still have a value and some buyers might make fraudulent claims.
However, buyers have always been able to start a return if the item received was not in the condition they expected.
The difference now is that Ebay foots the bill (in some circumstances) rather than the seller.
