Apple iPad Pro M4 fraud

I’ve noticed, over the last three weeks a significant number of listings for high end iPad Pros. They are listed at half the price of similar items. They come from various sellers with little to no selling feedback, sometimes they are listed in multi buy format (up to 6 available). Some of the early sales (mid August) have started to attract negative feedback, but despite this, more are appearing daily. I don’t really understand how this scam works, I assume they are banking on blaming a courier for non delivery and being allowed to keep the money. Hopefully the buyer will be covered by eBay protection, but it would take a while to get a resolution. Anyone want to check this out? Search “iPad Pro m4” look at current listings and past sales. They are mostly listed at £771 or thereabouts. In my years on eBay I’ve never seen such a widespread scam, I hope it gets sorted asap, although the buyer should be protected, I’m worried eBay/courier will take the hit and the scammers will just carry on.

Update, one of the buyers left feedback for a seller of one of these scam iPads. Apparently the package was show as being delivered, but to a different address. I assume the other scam sellers are doing the same, i.e send items tracked to a different address, this then triggers eBay to start the “releasing money’ process. I understand it then takes a couple of days to reach the seller. Moral of the story, if you have bought from any ebay seller, track the item yourself online, if tracking says delivered but you haven’t received, immediately contact eBay before the seller gets the money. I’ve sold a few things on eBay and thought initially eBay delaying payments was a ruse to keep the money in their account as long as possible. I’ve now changed my mind, this is a necessary process which will make eBay safer for buyers. A buyer just has to be on the ball and monitor all tracking updates on the courier website.

This is a common scam.  In order to be protected buyers will need to be prepared to get written confirmation from the courier concerned that the delivery address was not theirs.

This involves asking the delivery company to confirm it was not their address on the label, the courier will not be able to say where the delivery address was.

There is currently another thread on the same lines to do with Iphones  and another about Samsung flip phones.

Thanks, I’ve seen a few scams on eBay over the years, but the last three weeks has seen an escalation. I can understand brand new accounts attempting this type of fraud, but all the accounts are several years old, some with good purchase feedback, although not recent. It’s as though lots of seldom used accounts have been taken over and used to scam people. It must be a group doing this, as some of the photos are shared and I’ve had a reply on three occasions from different sellers “that their friend works for curry’s and gets them cheap” this is organised stuff and will ruin things for legit sellers. I’ve counted between 20 and 30 accounts doing this😩😩😩, some have sold 6 units, this is big stuff. Started mid August, bad feedback just coming through, think the ***** will hit the fan soon.
