Packlink parcels

I paid for postage through packlink and sent it on the 30th aug, it's been successfully delivered on the 2nd sept. I've now (15th sept) received an email of packlink stating that I had extra charges for incorrect size/weight. It seems odd that I would have an email saying to pay an extra £2.50 for the incorrect size/weight even though the item has been delivered

does anyone else have this problem?

Yes,   i had a problem with Packlink.   I sent a large parcel via Packlink on 7th April,  it was within the dimensions set out on their site. Parcel delivered 8th April.  On the 7th May I was charged £18 extra for excessive weight which i proved was wrong.  I am still waiting for refund,  but Packlink are a Spanish company and hate giving refunds.

Packlink is only an online platform who coordinate between the couriers and customers.

If you receive information that your parcel was over size or weight, the information has been sent to them by the courier who processed it. As you say, they are in Spain so can only work on the information from the courier which isn't always correct.

I use Packlink for 90% of my parcels and find that they are spot on with their communication and resolutions.

You get a response within 24 hours and have a named CS who will deal with the issue until it has been resolved.

If you have the proof that the information they have is incorrect, they will accept this and drop the charge. Much easier than trying to resolve it with the courier directly.

I think you are lucky.
I know lots of people who have been overcharged.
You only have to look at this cute to prove that.

They do this all the time. We used Packlink for 2 years before giving up. On a monthly basis we got these surcharges notification, always when using evri as a courier. We provided photos of parcels on scales with tape measurements showing (time consuming) and in every case we were not charged, eventually. We put it down to parcels being stuck together at evri's sortation hub where the measurements and weights are taken. We suggested to Packlink, given their knowledge from proof supplied by people like us that they know there is an issue with evri's weighing system, that they cease asking for surcharges and reverse the burden of proof, and ask evri to prove parcels are overweight/oversized. Needless to say, they closed our case with no reply. We have also had issues with them adding surcharges for remote zones that courier's do not consider remote. For example, they charge extra to deliver to AB52 when on evri's website, they dont charge extra, and even if buying direct through eBay instead of via Packlink's portal, it is cheaper. When we asked Packlink why they charge extra to AB52 when evri and eBay dont, again they closed our case saying they were correct instead of moving AB52 out of their remote location list. Luckily for us, having so many bad experiences made us look around. We currently use Parcel2Go, who charge less than Packlink, give higher compensation and also integrate to eBay for labels creation and tracking number updates.

I have had this happen to me again yesterday and today - i have sent all the relevant photos to packlink and i have also spoken to customer service from ebay to make a compplaint and Packlink need to be looked into - as they clearly dont know thier own weights, when purchaseing postage labels from ebay.

They put it down to Evri,s weighing, Good way to pass the buck, eBay should look at Alternative ways for delivery, they are going to lose custom ie people sending them selfs.

That is what this thread is about, Packlink requesting dubious surcharges weeks after shipments pass through courier networks. There are some earlier comments about appealing the surcharges by submitting photographic evidence to show parcel weights and sizes. Packlink request a photo of the actual parcel sent, so when we were using them (we stopped because of this and moved to Parcel2Go) we used to take a photo of the packed parcel on our scales and keep it for later use in case we needed to appeal a surcharge. The Packlink process is a little time consuming and needless, but we are pleased to say that we did get ALL our surcharges (circa 20 over 2 years) refunded once we provided the photos. But we eventually got fed up with the process so switched to Parcel2Go and so far, have not experienced any surcharges (emphasis on the so far as we are sure they will come as the fault lies with the courier's belt scales and laser scanners. We think sometimes two packages get stuck together on the belt, so weights and sizes are misrecorded. We suspect the delay in us receiving the surcharges is because Packlink receive the courier discrepancies in batches as received one email once with two surcharges 10 days apart. The system will not change so all we can suggest is be aware of the issue, take photos to save time later, and submit the counter claims, or save the time and just accept it is unfair and just absorb this extra cost as another cost of selling on eBay, or maybe do as we did and move to Parcel2Go where we save 20p a parcel and use their Smart Send system which is so much better than Packlink's portal and also links to eBay Shops for label order import and tracking uploads, or move to someone else. Packlink are not the only parcel  consolidator out there.

A well written and informative reply.

To say that this is an eBay  community forum it does seem as though eBay is taking any part of this discussion which is rather disappointing. So, if anyone from eBay is reading this why not offer some of your customers the reassurance that it matters to you and that you are taking steps to resolve the matter.

Sellers Allege Widespread Postage Underpayment Scam Involving Packlink and eBay

We would like to raise alarms over an alleged systematic scheme involving the delivery company Packlink, with eBay being accused of enabling this practice. Many sellers claim they are being unfairly charged under the pretext of "underpaid postage," with many taking to forums and social media to share their experiences. A simple Google search for "Packlink scam" reveals the extent of this issue, with countless sellers expressing frustration and financial losses.

Many sellers are speaking out, with growing calls for an investigation. The issue has become so widespread that an online search for “Packlink scam” yields numerous complaints, blog posts, and forum discussions detailing similar experiences. These accounts paint a picture of widespread exploitation targeting small businesses that rely on eBay for their livelihood.

The Alleged Scheme

1. Surprise Deductions by Packlink
Packlink is accused of deducting arbitrary amounts, typically £3.18, from sellers’ bank accounts weeks or months after the alleged postage occurred. These deductions are said to exploit the direct debit authorisation that sellers are required to set up when using eBay’s shipping service.
2. Revoked Direct Debits Met with eBay Withholding Funds
Sellers who revoke Packlink’s authority to withdraw funds are faced with eBay stepping in to withhold their funds to cover the disputed charges. Sellers argue this tactic makes eBay complicit in the scheme, effectively circumventing their ability to protect their accounts from unjust charges.
3. Unreasonable Burden of Proof
When sellers dispute the charges, Packlink reportedly demands unreasonable evidence, such as photographs of parcels and proof of the postage weight, which most sellers do not routinely retain.

* Financial Impact: While individual charges are small, the cumulative effect is significant for sellers who already operate on slim profit margins.
* Trust Erosion: The perception that eBay and Packlink are working in tandem against sellers has shaken trust in the platform.
* Consumer Protection Concerns: Sellers argue that these practices may violate the Direct Debit Guarantee and consumer protection laws under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

A Call for Accountability

The situation has sparked calls for action from both affected sellers and consumer rights advocates. They are demanding:

1. Transparency: Clear evidence to substantiate any alleged postage underpayments.
2. Fair Practices: A halt to the practice of withholding funds or automatic deductions without seller consent.
3. Investigations: Independent scrutiny of Packlink’s operations and eBay’s role in facilitating the deductions.

Quotes from Affected Sellers

“This isn’t about one or two mistakes; it’s a systematic issue. Packlink charges whatever they want, and eBay just goes along with it. Sellers are left powerless,” said one seller.

“We rely on eBay to run our businesses. To feel like the platform itself is enabling this kind of exploitation is disheartening,” said another.

For Further Information

For those interested in investigating further, a simple Google search of “Packlink scam” offers a clear snapshot of the frustration faced by countless sellers.

We respectfully urge the BBC to investigate this issue as part of its commitment to exposing consumer rights abuses and holding corporations accountable.
