VAT buying

Hi,

I have noticed that recently some of my purchases have been subject to VAT and 2 of the items are childrens clothing which are exempt.

just wondering if anyone can give me feedback as I have just phoned eBay and the only explanation was that maybe the sellers are international.

Many thanks

Unless seller is non UK, there is no VAT on the item.

But, if buying from private seller, you pay buyer protection fee,

As it is an ebay fee, VAT has to be charged on it.

The BPF includes VAT,  but ebay breaks the cost down of invoice.

There are no exempt items on ebay.

You pay VAT on all imported items, new or used.

The VAT you are charged is on services provided to you by ebay, these are not exempt.  It's not VAT on the items themselves.
