What does eBay actually do about counterfeit items? The seller has said to return the item for a refund, but then they’ll just sell it on but it’s a fake, so I don’t really want to do that.
I’ve submitted a report but haven’t heard anything. The contact phone numbers just have an automated voice that tells you you’re calling outside of normal business hours (11am? Don’t think so). I can’t find information about how they actually manage these reports or how long you might have to wait, or what to do with the item.
If I report it as ‘not as described’, do I have to return the item? It’s not a very transparent process.
Thank you!

You will have to return it to the seller to get a refund, the seller will have to supply a prepaid label for the return for an item not as described. Everything is automated and eBay wont look at the case unless there are any issues reported.
The only time eBay may not require a return is if you have written proof from an official body

Thank you. I’ve requested a return and left negative feedback. I really didn’t want to return fake goods for them to resell to an unsuspecting punter, but that seems the only option.

If this seller continues to sell this ,or other fake items, and buyers act correctly as you did, that is , they open a case for item not as described, an above average number of those cases for that reason, will raise red flags to eBay, they can then either remove the item and or seller from their site permanently.
