Simple Delivery rip-off

Simple Delivery is now the default setting but it is possible to opt out of Simple Delivery by selecting "Switch to Advance Options".  Why is Ebay pushing this?

Simple, Ebay gets a discount on the postage and creams off some of the cost the buyer pays. The seller gets nothing to cover packaging and other costs like driving to the post office because home collection is not offered with Simple delivery. My advice is OPT OUT OF SIMPLE DELIVERY

Yes , it is currently a default, but up to the 15th you can opt out.

Just click on Collection Only,  then straight back and click on Postage only.  Custom postage will appear for you to select the postal service and charges you wish to make.

Be aware,  we are told that on the 7th, any current listing will default no matter what the service selected, to Special Delivery.

So in reality,  you have only a few days to opt out of SD !

You're right, except I think it's the 15th.

This is restrictive practice and will probably mean I will stop selling on Ebay

Yes,  it is the 15th that it becomes mandatory, for all Private sellers, as said above,  but we've been told that on the 7th eBay can change all existing listings to show  a Simple Delivery postage.  Just be aware of that date if you have previous items listed.

My feelings exactly!  As a frequent seller,   without a printer or smart-phone, this new 'system' is a disaster.

I have already lost money on a CD sale where I was charged for a label I couldn't use and have been unable to reclaim the cost of.  Nearly 20 years of  happy selling now at an end!

I have got some items which have been bid on. The date for the change over starts before my items will be finished. Will ebay honour those bids ?

I have just tried to use Simple Delivery on a listing and it's unsuitable, it is missing weight categories between 2KG and 15KG.

I had some items with bids and wanted to close my account because of SD, you can end the listings and it presents an option to convert them to a buy-it-now at whatever the current bid price is. To the customer it just looks like they've won the item, and pay as normal.

Same here, I've just deleted all my listings and am in the process of closing the account.

My sympathies. I am looking hard for a work-around this but it doesn't look promising.  I suppose they have had the decency to abolish the 10% sellers fee recently which gives us some wiggle room to just eat the cost of the wasted postage, but it still rankles.

They replaced the seller fee with the buyer protection fee which is more
than 10% on low value items and also withhold payment until 2 days after
delivery so you have to pay extra for tracking. No decency involved here

Bpf 75p (flat rate on everything horrible little move) plus 4%

a lot more than 10% on low cost items

more like 100%

thats before you factor in enforced special delivery rip off prices

Really helpful thanks I've just done this.  Not sure what I'll be doing with my other listings, the whole thing is a complete disaster?

Lot's of responses to this topic, but this forum is really just an echo chamber. If you have not already done so recommend that EVERYONE complains directly to Ebay. Go to the chat bot and key in advisor 3 times to arrange a human being to call you back and let them know what you think about simple delivery,

sorry to hear that - it really is impossible without printer or smart phone and it's more expensive than royal mail, even more so if you opt out of evri. Somewhere I read that there might be changes to allow postie to bring label, but can reference it at the moment and could take ages...
