Reclaiming postage on Simple Delivery

I had an unusual issue in claiming back my postage.

I had made a sale with free postage using Simple Delivery, packaged the item and got the  postage label. So far so good.

Unfortunately the item got damaged whilst taking it to the Post Office making the item un-postable.

So, I decided not to post it and refund the buyer explaining what happened. Which means the prepaid postage label had not been scanned by the Post Office and so was unused. However trying to get back this postage cost via eBay is impossible due to eBay's conditions.

I tried the chat bot to see if my scenario would reveal a solution but no, it didn't offer any solutions. Kept reverting back to non related postage issues, really quite useless.  Eventually, having dropped down the chat box options I managed to get an eBay representative to give me a call.

This proved helpful. Having explained the situation and them reviewing my sale and seeing the messages sent to the buyer, they agreed a refund. To do so they sent an email with a link. I followed the link, filled in the details and I am now waiting for the refund, it may take up to 14 days.

Time will tell if this works. I know my scenario is unusual but surely I am not the first person to have to go through this process.

Reclaiming postage on Simple Delivery

This is the process below, for receiving a refund for unused  SD labels,  and it can take 30 days now,  for both seller or buyer,  whoever paid for that label.

  • If you selected 'Buyer pays’ when you created the listing, your buyer will automatically be refunded for any Simple Delivery label that isn’t used after 30 days

  • If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling.  The refund here,  can also take 30 days to materialise.
