There is no point contacting eBay, as their policy stands to refund their buyer members receiving faulty / defective items, only within 30 days of the item's last estimated date for delivery, hence the ' 30 day MBG ' policy.
eBay have done their duty to send a message from the manufacturer explaining the fault / defect etc. and it's now between you and the seller to affect any refund. You could contact the manufacturer see what they say.
Did you purchase from a UK registered business? Did they offer any guarantee which they are now not upholding? If so, you could take this to Citizens Advice i you wish to take this further.
