Royal Mail: Proposed second-class delivery changes

This is going to cause absolute chaos with delivery times.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c2l0pvy2ew7o

Royal Mail should only deliver second-class letters every other weekday and not on Saturdays to protect the future of the UK's postal industry, the industry regulator has proposed.

Ofcom said the Universal Service Obligation (USO) must be reformed as people send fewer letters every year but stamp prices keep rising.

The one-price-goes-anywhere USO means Royal Mail has to deliver post six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, and parcels on five from Monday to Friday.

Ofcom said Royal Mail should continue to deliver first-class letters six days a week but second class will be limited to alternate weekdays.

I get all my postage collected by RM so wondering if they will also not be collecting as often.

Royal Mail: Proposed second-class delivery changes

Honestly, I'm phasing out all sales that could have gone letter or a cheap 2nd class and upgrading everything to tracked 48, I thought it'd help me get my Premium Service benefits, but even though everything "seems" to meet those criteria, I never get any of the benefits

With the roll out of mandatory simple delivery second class standard will not be one of the options, not for private sellers anyway. Royal Mail have been increasing their revenue with parcels and free collection. I doubt they plan to reduce that offering.

I did this sometime ago. Even if it meant increasing some prices.

Reason for doing so ? . Isn't it strange how large letters with no tracking only seem

to go missing on eBay and not on my website.

I just checked a listing of yours, you need to 2 services.

24 and 48 along with same day dispatch, with a cut off time, we have ours set at 9am.

The 24 hr service can be charged but no more than £10.

Online price up to 100g is £7.75, up to 500g is £8.75 and up to a kilo is £9.75 - and don't forget that eBay will take a chunk of that in fees.

You're lucky that eBay buyers that are prepared to pay for SD are as rare as hens' teeth, otherwise you'd be running a loss at £6.95.

I cannot imagine sellers using these services at that kind of price.

I've already factored in £4 into my price to offer free P&P so if they pay for SD essentially I'm getting £11 to cover it

Mine also go walkabout but thinking more like they want freebies I sent one off December she’s come back to me and said inr . So It’s took her nearly two months to raise it hasn’t got to her.
I sent replacements two days ago by SD no acknowledgment at all .
Apparently all got lost in the Newcastle upon Tyne  Mail hub . Got blamed it was my fault.

yeah that does suck, they lost a £100 tracked 24 with signature for me just before xmas, they paid out, but as it's the step down from special delivery I really thought it'd be safe(r)

I upgraded a few of mine to tracked 48 but still getting the late delivery- mine get collected everyday via the postie.
I think the common defecter here is Newcastle Royal Mail Hub. They get sent from Stockton on tees hub up to Newcastle RM Hub and get lost in there.
Third parcel gone missing again. All sent tracked delivery.

All items awaiting despatch tomorrow (3rd) by second class are showing delivery 4th - 5th when it should be 5th - 6th.  If this new every other day delivery option is implemented, unless eBay add at least two days to EDDs, INR claims are going to rocket

Yeah that's my concern, I was told by my sorting office that they prioritised tracked services, and I dunno about every other day but my 2nd class post only comes once a week!

I get second class every day . I hope I don’t get any complaints when the every other day comes in as can’t afford 1st class.
