Some private sellers have received a stonking offer.
Free to list
Free to sell
Until April!
Don't know what the T's & C's look like but damn I could do with those types of offers.

The main thing with selling plants is that you need to be registered with the Animal and Plant Health Agency and issuing a UK plant passport with each order, as per their distance selling regulations. If you're actively propagating to sell and make a profit then there's a good chance that they would decide you require a paperwork inspection each year.
My hope is that one day they'll work closer with eBay to actually enforce this. As a small plant nursery, it's unfair that there are private plant sellers with far more listings than me who are now going to escape eBay fees and the cost of APHA inspections.
Not suggesting you're doing this by the way, your comment just prompted my general observation of the situation at large

For the people who do not buy from abroad, or are not looking for rare parts/items, ebay may appear to be costly, complaining about fees selling to people in this country (their own country), but to those of us who regularly buy from abroad, it is an essential marketplace that gives access to all the countries of the world, and their products, with almost no risk, because Ebay effectively acts as an escrow service, where we know that Ebay will be impartial and will protect buyers.
I haven't had a problem, yet, that the seller hasn't rectified immediately, or Ebay hasn't rectified to my satisfaction, very quickly I might add.
The money I make on Ebay goes into buying from companies who sell on Ebay most of the time. Perhaps they have worked out that it helps keep the private buyers sweet, being able to sell your old bits and bobs for free, keeping the circular economy going, enabling the reuse of old unwanted items, but they can charge a reasonable fee for online sellers, who usually also have their own websites, but use Ebay to attract new buyers, especially from abroad.
I use Ebay because it is easy to use, it saves me time, I get search results from companies I have never heard of, but can be confident buying from them. I have spent thousands on car parts (new and used), with maintaining two old cars (my major expenditure after food), and do use it for buying food/clothing/books/white goods and many DIY parts if the local hardware store hasn't got it, and have purchased from countries all over the world, and now with their global shipping programme, I get hassle free selling worldwide as well.
Everything is in English, so if buying from abroad, I don't need to start doing translations from say Lithuanian.
For those businesses that may struggle, you need your own website, and then put higher prices on the Ebay listings to pay for their fees. That is what many other companies do already, but most of the time I will buy from Ebay, because I know if things aren't right, that Ebay will sort it out very quickly.
Alot of the car parts I buy are not produced any more, so it's rare new stock that I am looking for.......can't get it from the local dealership/parts stores, or almost new (used items), but for one of my cars, eastern europe is a good source. Saves having to spend hours going to car boot sales, where you may not get the parts. Servicing parts (high quality) are dirt cheap, where you're not paying for the distributor network/profit, it's straight from a central warehouse for each company that you buy from.
I have used Amazon, but prefer Ebay because it is often cheaper and has a better spread of sellers, and I really don't like the "contract" (Ts&Cs) that Amazon uses for sellers.
Ebay......brilliant!!! I can buy and sell confidently on Ebay!!!!

Another way to make business sellers feel even more undervalued on the platform.

Firstly my hat off to you lord and lady M - I didn't just read this I saw some of your other postings.
Also it's a changed market place in fact always changing - it has to. Which is hard for Ebay also it need be for competition sakes.
Alas now October 2024 we have this constantly changing situation for private sellers. Are the Ebay reasons true that they are doing it for Ecological reasons with private sellers selling goods that would otherwise be sent to waste. I mean the clothes issue was seemingly directly to show the competition that Ebay have power but this FREE FEES FOR PRIVATE SELLERS on pretty much everything. This is big.
And just as a side comment in return Business Sellers will be supported if the buyers abuse item not as described ! NO THEY WONT - Thats a failed 15 year promise that all collapsed when they stated clear Seller Support that in reality wasn't applied and more then likely fell on the side of the buyer. I know I was there. I'm not trying to simplify these things they aren't simple.
Now why are fees really free for Private Sellers. Well for any genuine private seller this is a great thing for sure but I put it to you that the UK Government is having to tie up the non tax payers and Ebay over the years haven't addressed this at all unless forced to like more recently supplying sales figures to the tax office by law over certain sales volmes financially or by quantity of sales.
This is a good thing for private sellers for sure. You out there trying to make some small monies back inbetween the school runs etc. Always a great thing to all you that do that Ebay is a great thing - quite punishing also at times but great. Now I'm telling you Ebay is really after chasing anybody that isnt really a private seller into a business account. This is not for the fun of it. It's purely for the fees they get from business accounts. Many people will be forced into Business accounts either by Ebay or the Tax office questioning them.
And for you childish Ebay trolls always ruining everyones posts - I was able to claim during Covid and also file a tax return which includes all my sales - apart from the fact that I do other technical work outside of Ebay and havent properly traded on ebay since major troubles in May 2021 which meant I really wasn't up to the job.
Trolls have your day I'm sure you still will. Very boring though. All you jealous fools out there why not just work hard like the original poster of this question.
