This evening on my phone I received an eBay Notification that an item had sold. I only saw the first word of the listing title but there was only one item current or recent with that word. I signed in to check as I couldn't remember whether I had set a BIN price and if I had, for what amount. The sign-in was glitchy. When I signed in finally, there was no new sale and the item I thought had sold was still online with no bids. Now I'm thinking the the "notification" was a scam and I have given them my data. I have changed my password on eBay. I was reading earlier that there is a new kind of phishing using AI which makes everything more realistic and harder to detect. I want it like the olden days when you got information when signed onto the site.
I don't want any more notifications from eBay. What do you think?

In this new fanged stupid digital world
do nothing unless you’re signed in proper and safely inside ebay
Ignore all mails and texts..all are easily faked
any notifications you need will be in eBay

If you didn't click on a link in the email you haven't given 'them' anything.

If you clicked on anything in the email then you want to do a full system virus scan and a mailware scan. It could have added a key logger to your system and changing password will mean nothing as it will log the new password and the passwords of any other sites you log into

If you clicked on anything, you may be at risk. While I read the notifications... I never click on them. I delete emails and notifications, I then log on via the app or my trusted desktop links. You get everything you need in there.

I thought I was signing in to eBay. I was presented with what looked like the eBay sign-in "flow".

That's what I think so why does still eBay send out all these notifications? "Notifications" seemed like a great idea years ago but now we have to remember to ignore them in order to stay safe.

If it’s odd in any way
Always look at the header in the from eBay bit
if it’s genuine it will have something like eBay @ ebay . Co. Uk

The first thing to clarify before anyone jumps to conclusions about keyloggers, malware, and giving away data, is where did the notification come from?
Was it an EMAIL notification where you clicked it, then went into the email and clicked a link to log in, or was it a notification from the eBay app itself?
If it's the app itself, then it was probably just some sort of bug. Unless you've somehow downloaded (and this is very, very, very, very, very unlikely) a hacked version of the eBay app, then you're not in danger.
If it was an email, then all bets are off. Though it's unlikely that a link in an email would install a keylogger or malware on your phone.

Notificatins on a phone are tiny slivers and a scammer could set a fake URL that looks like it is in a header.

Just treat a notification as an indicator that you might want to log in to your account and check something.
That way they can never do you harm.

EBay needs to warn us in every email and notification to only transact when signed in to the site.

Or you could just remember.
Most phishing-style emails (bearing in mind you still haven't said if the notification you got was from the eBay app or was an email) will contain all the warning text that a usual email will have.
People don't read it.
If the notification you got was from the EBAY APP then it almost 100% was not in any way any sort of phishing attempt. If it was an email, then that's a different story.
Either way, if you don't want notifications...just turn them off.

I was not able to determine where the notification came from. And, yes, I'm turning them off when I can find the option. Why is eBay still sending Notifications which are so easy to spoof?

Again, if it came from an email, then every email notification you ever get from any company ever is "easy to spoof" because it's just an email.
If it came from the app, then, like I said, it wasn't any sort of spoof or scam and it was probably just a slight bug in the system somewhere.

This week I have received several notifications that purport to be from the app but at the very least they are spam.
They say "There is a new order" and when I click on them they take me to (what appears to be) a listing page for a seller amanacommerce.
They are based in the US and I am almost positive that I have never interacted with them.
I do not know the best way to deal with them. I don't know which category of notification they fall under and blocking all notifications seems excessive.
I have searched the forum and used google but haven't got anywhere.
Does anybody have any ideas? Thank you

Now, when I visit the homepage it is showing in my recently viewed items, so presumably this means that it is somewhat legit.
But, even if it is, why is it showing me the same item and one that I have zero interest in buying, from an unknown seller in another country?
