Item sold to someone with negative feedback score!

Hi,

Just sold an item for £40 to someone who has a -1 feedback score and has been an eBay memeber since 2020. The score relates to an item they sold over a year ago. This has set alarm bells ringing and I am rather concerned about continuing with the transaction. It is a large second hand item and would have been posted via ParcelForce Express 48. They haven't paid yet and I'm wondering what the consequences would be for me for cancelling the transaction. Thanks

Hi

I understand your issues, I had a lady who had the same 1* feedback, if the buyer doesn't pay with in 4 days the transaction will be cancelled by eBay. You can then leave 1* feedback on how the transaction went. Alternatively if they pay, fantastic but then cause you havock you can still reply to their negative feedback. Future buyers will be able to see how you dealt with the issues at hand.

if you cancel the transaction, I believe (I'm going back to last year) you have 3 (three) "seller cancelled by seller due to....." before there is some form of penalty (feedback stars) by eBay, I know it's a 3 x 1 penalty if you cancel due to sizing etc.

good luck 🤞

If it were me i would see if they pay and then decide what to do.Hopefully they won't pay and you can then cancel for that reason.

If you were to cancel you would probably end up with a defect and buyers ability to leave feedback would still be viable.

Wait and see if they pay.

The negative feedback must be for a sale, not a purchase.

If you cancel and they leave you negative feedback, your score will be -1.

Re: Item sold to someone with negative feedback score!

so according to your profile you have been a member since 2014 which would indicate that you have bought or sold some items (cannot confirm that or feedback as it is not showing on this account).  Assuming you have used an account in the last 10 years then at some point the odds are that you would have had some feedback but it could be that you sold say 10 items before anyone actually did a feedback ergo all those 10 would have bought from you not knowing if you were reliable or not!   The other point that is often pointed out by some of our more learned brethren is that maybe starting selling it would be a good idea to start with small price items first and see how it goes.   E bays motto should be 'if you cannot afford to lose it then do not sell it' because you are always at risk both as a buyer or seller but especially as a seller.

Try dealing with facts and not making assumptions.

I was actually just trying to explain why i thought your 'assumption' that the buyer is probably a scammer of some kind is just not warranted with the information you have.  We all start with no feedback whether as a buyer or seller, the site would not work if we all assumed the other party was trouble.  You just have to be prepared for the risk or not bother.
