Royal Mail lost a £1600 item, now what?

My buyer says they received an empty box when i sent them a RTX 4090, they provided me with pics including the label so i know its legit, i have tracking number and receipt from the post office. I suppose he could have just taken it out and photographed an empty box but he has a lot of positive reviews and no negative so i don't think so. What do i do now? The method used was "Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed 1pm"

Can you attach the photos? There must be some sign of rewrapping or something if it was take by someone in the delivery team. It says photo and signature on delivery... have you seen the photo that RM took? Should be attached to your tracking number. You should be able to recognize if anything was done to your parcel before it was handed over.

The positive reviews mean nothing. This is £1600. People kill over a lot less. They could just want it for free.

I'm hoping you paid for additional insurance when you sent it.

Was it sent in a nondescript plain box?

Does the buyer happen to sell similar items?

You should still report this to the police and the royal mail as an internal theft. Pass the buyers info onto the royal mail and police and tell them they may be contacted during their investigation.

Oh my days and there’s nothing to prove the recipient of that parcel  was the buyer

well with this kind of potential fraud happening it’s about time Royal Mail had a system where the recipient not only signed but had their passport or other id photographed for goods of such a value

sorry Op I hope you get a good result here🙏

The buyer said he got it but it was just an empty box

I was trying to say eg if there’s other people in the house that might have got the delivery but weren’t the buyer and that other person stole it and kept an empty box  for the buyer to open

other than that royal mail staff stole it

OR your buyer is a liar

Id definitely be reporting it to RM and the police so that it can be investigated.

ROFL i think the kids say! I take it it was custom delivery because of the price? Do you have the pictures the buyer sent you? Just out of interest really.

I have no experience of claiming for anything this high value.  I have had empty packages turn up at the buyers address and I too, believed them. The buyer cannot have known this RM photo included no picture of the package.

Im also wondering if the buyer checked the delivery photo and knows the box cannot be seen in it and is trying it on. What makes me think that is that the rtx 4090 isn’t exactly light so if an empty box had been handed over, it would have been obvious (I have been known to make the postman wait while I opened a ‘suspect’ package)

It's possible, but a long shot. If you spend that much money you don't surely check photos in the hope that you might be able to make a claim? I would be interested to know if the buyer even recognizes the feet?

I don't know how Ebay will judge this one, but I have read claims like it before, just can't remember the outcome. RM will have a hard job defending it though.

He posted the label with full details but i cropped them out for this upload for obvious reasons.

How come you only used a single stock photo for your listing? Why not take more photos, especially of such an expensive item, to show warranty seals still intact and the serial number of the graphics, did the other graphics card you sold arrive?

The other one arrived safely. I have a receipt, the tracking number and the photographs and signature from royal mail. I assume that i have enough evidence for some type of compensation. My employee that i sent to post this 4090 was an idiot, he did not cover it up with anything, he just put the label on the plain box and sent it despite my instructions

Ugh. so basically it was advertised to the whole world what was inside the box? This does increase the chance of an internal theft.

10kg? So just the original box, no extra packing, graphics card etc?
