Ebay Scam

I'd like to share a scam that happened to me, which I believe eBay employees are involved in. I sold an item on eBay and then the buyer risesd a dispute directly with his bank without returning the item.  Of course the dispute was found in the buyer's favour by eBay, even though the item wasn't returned so i lost my item and money.

This may be a scam. 'eBay employees' are only involved because the Buyer's bank is coming to eBay (not you) and thank goodness! Can you imagine having to handle that alone?

Is this just a PSA?

You don't say what the reason for the dispute was or how you responded to  it, although as you mention the item not being returned I presume it must have been 'Item not as described'.

Where payment disputes/chargebacks are concerned the outcome is decided by the buyer's payment provider (PayPal or card issuer), not eBay, and whilst you can request the item to be returned, unfortunately, any refund to the buyer is not conditional on them doing so.

And No, this is not a scam and eBay employees are not involved, @mariusz38633 . Without you providing more details regarding your specific issue one could only speculate as to the sequence of events which resulted in the situation you describe.

If anything, though, it appears the buyer may well have opened a dispute directly with their bank by claiming to not recognise the transaction rather than opening a Not As Described dispute with eBay.

The Property Services Agency ceased to exist in 1993. Its demise was totally unconnected with the fact that I used to work there...

IQL acronyms.  I just google them and I've now learnt what PSAs and TLAs are.  Whether I'll remember them for next time is a different matter 🤣

PS.  It seems IQL in this context is one I've made up as google doesn't know it.

I wouldnt put up with the criticism. Just tell them to FRO and if they dont like that TCLI.

Just because they get the AA isnt your problem, they should PTSU and GWTP.

If not they can GTF.

It's not a scam @mariusz38633 , and certainly no eBay employees are involved.

Did the buyer not contact you first?

It's called a chargeback, where the buyer has paid with a debit or credit card and then gone straight to their card provider to complain that they haven't received the item, or that they have but it's not as described. A chargeback is also issued if a buyer doesn't recognise a transaction on their card statement (their card may have been used without their authorisation). 

eBay are obliged, at this point, to reverse the payment, they have no choice.

If this is a not as described chargeback, the buyer does end up with the item, there is minimal seller protection here. If it has any value it may be worth sending them a message asking for your item back (you'll need to find a way to send them a pre-paid postage label).

I had one of these recently - Ebay very quickly found in my favour, and removed the buyer's multiple negative feedbacks. However, they couldn't see anything wrong with the death threat he then sent me!

More chance of him getting done for sending the email than actually killing him.
