Heads up.

I almost always price Buy It Nows at prices ending in 99p: £9.99, £19.99, £24.99 and so on. Just sold an item and was surprised to find the buyer had pad £20.01.

Checked my listings and most have gone up by 1p or 2p.  Looks silly!

Anyone else seeing this or is it just me? Best way to see it is to look at your listings as if you are a buyer, then click on Sellers Other Items.

My relative on their Private Account was having the same problem a few weeks ago.

Now when she lists a BIN item an amount including 'Buyer's Fees' is beside the amount she has entered, so she can adjust if needed.

The way the buyer protection fee is calculated changed today.

This was announced on 5/11/25 on this forum, but as far as I know, there was no email to warn private sellers about this.

I've been doing the same thing as you - painstakingly working out prices so that they don't look weird to buyers. eBay has just changed the formula again for working out the "buyer's protection fee". I now have hundreds of items with bizarre prices again having had to sort it out twice over the summer when they kept changing the formula. It's incredibly annoying.

Just noticed I've been hit by this. I posted this on a different forum:

All my listings were carefully listed to be a nice round number for the buyer, this is because its just my experience, but I find listings with random figures, like £13.42 or something similar don't do well. I think the lack of a round number subconciously gives buyers the ick.

But it seems overnight all my listings now end is .01 or .02, e.g £40.01 or £10.02 - I cant see anybody on the forums has had the same issue. What happened and is there a quick easy way for me to fix it?

Ebay have excelled yet again, just when things had settled down and sellers spent countless hours revising prices to sensible amounts, they think of ways to screw it all up again.

However, don't spend hours revising again as someone who knows someone who knows someone with links to the higher ups in eBay reckon they are looking at upping the 7% and the 4% BPF to 8% and 5% in the not too distant future, pennies again for most sellers but  screwing up the prices AGAIN!

Just another thing to note, those in the know say there is and never was any intention to work out a way to combine postage although CS will tell you it's being worked on, just as we were promised combined postage on GSP which never happened all that time ago. Just sayin.....

The flat fee has been changed from 'Up to 10p' to a fixed 10p which in most cases means an extra 2p.  Unfortunately, I don't  think there is a quick way to fix it.

I’m fairly sure eBay were charging an 8p fixed fee instead of 10p, for some reason.

Now they have corrected it.

(Items may currently show as 1-3p different, but that is because of eBay’s weird rounding.)

So bulk “Lower by” 2p on every listing should get you back to your old prices.

My theory is that they got the VAT wrong, again.  I.e it was always meant to be 10p including VAT but the coders got it wrong and put the VAT exclusive value in the programming.

Now the coders have corrected that error ebay needs to find a way of explaining why the fee is now the 10p it was always meant to be, hence the corporate speak explanation in the announcement.

I think you are probably right. It doesn't make sense to announce 10p then implement 8p. But VAT would explain it.
That's about as good an answer as we will likely ever get anyway. So let's go with it.

Ebay, the only commerce website where users get the thrill of guessing what their item will be priced at. Will it be 9.99? Will it be 11.30? Or maybe 10.76! Nobody knows, not even ebay! Join the fun today!
