You can grow your sales in many ways, but your inventory is a constant. The right data can help you make informed decisions about what to sell, when to sell it, and at what price.

At eBay, we want to help you grow both your reach and revenue, which is why we’ve built our free-to-use Product Research tool (formerly known as Terapeak Product Research).

Product Research is always at your fingertips through both the eBay app and website, letting you check item prices and popularity using real eBay sales data from the last three years. It’s a powerful tool to uncover opportunities, make smarter sourcing decisions, and grow your shop’s reach and revenue.

Whether you’re adjusting prices or exploring new categories, Product Research gives you a clearer picture of what buyers are looking for, what’s selling, and how listings perform over time.

What is eBay’s Product Research tool?

Product Research gives you visibility across all of eBay’s marketplaces on product and category performance. You can access the last three years of eBay sales data, running searches on:

  • Sales trends: See how product sales have performed over time, making it easier to plan around seasonal demand or shifts in customer purchasing habits
  • Average sales prices: Price your listings correctly in line with typical prices for the same or similar items

  • Sold price range: Identify the highest and lowest prices items have sold for
  • Actual sold price: For ‘Best Offer’ listings, see the final accepted price
  • Average postage costs: Understand the number of listings offering free postage as well as factoring in pricing margins
  • Sell through rate: Shows you the percentage of similar items that sold during a specific period, indicating demand and how quickly your inventory may move
  • Total number of sellers: An overview of the sellers who have sold that item, giving you an idea of an item’s saturation in market
  • Selling format: Identify which listing formats are most successful
  • Top Performing Listings: Analyse listings at scale for insights on effective photos, descriptions, and item specifics

Where to find it

Product Research is free for all sellers.

To access Product Research, head to Seller Hub on desktop and click the Research tab. If you’re using the eBay app, the tool is available in the Selling tab once you’ve sold an item or have an active listing. Simply tap on Research under the Selling tools section.

How it works

You can start with one or more search filters. These include:

  • Date range: Access eBay data for up to the last three years
  • Category: Focus on specific eBay categories and subcategories. Depending on the Category chosen, other relevant filters will appear
  • Item condition: Filter between new and used
  • Listing format: Opt to select one or more options between Auction, Best Offer accepted, and Fixed price
  • Buyer and Seller locations: Research specific geographic markets

There’s also the option to search by eBay marketplace, so you can compare results in different markets. This includes the UK, US, Germany and other regions around the world, which can be especially useful if you’re looking to expand internationally or want to understand how demand and pricing varies by country.

Why use it?

Using Product Research gives you insightful data when making decisions about stock, pricing and timing. You can:

  • Identify which items are in demand before sourcing new stock
  • Understand how similar products are being priced by other sellers
  • Spot trends early and adjust your listings strategy accordingly
