Don't buy heavy items from eBay sellers (2)

A cautionary tale, following on from my earlier thread with same title, excepting (2):

Item is an exercise bike, weight approx 18kg; arrived damaged and unuseable.  Return label is for item to be taken to a post office.  Can't lift the package off the floor!

Been trying to pay the extra for collection from my home address.  ParcelForce is unable to do anything, as it is a pre-paid return label.  Seller is uncooperative.  Spoke to a member of the eBay customer services leadership team:  as far as eBay is concerned, seller has complied by issuing a return label and it is up to me to get it to the post office.  Only way I will get a collection is by paying for the return myself.

(Advised to get help, but neighbours are either elderly or at work and my family lives 25 miles away. )

It is my view that eBay should issue return labels to match size/weight of item, but that it really doesn't care anyway.  (The eBay chat today was like speaking with a pompous robot.)  Amazon always offers collection of larger items and so should eBay.

So... I am closing both eBay accounts, (one already done, will close this one once I receive my refund).  Had this account for almost 20 years:  seen some things improve, but many things decline.

At one time, I couldn't have contemplated being eBay-less, but it has red-taped; new user agreemented; complicated customer serviced  itself into oblivion, IMHO.

And I won't miss it one bit.  Yay!

You should request a call back from Ebay via the help and contact link at the bottom of most pages and explain you need a returns label that covers the weight.

Best time to do this is just after 8am Mon - Fri or just after 9 am on weekends and Bank Holidays.

Hi there.  Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.  I have already done what you suggest - several times.  Decided to book a 'Chat'  today, instead. Then asked to speak to someone in a senior position and was put through to a member of the customer services leadership team.  He didn't mess about. 😅  Immediately told me the seller had complied with issuing a return label  and it was now my responsibility to get it to a post office.  Quoted consumer rights stuff at me and when asked if the only way I would get collection was if I paid for it myself, replied 'That would be a fair assessment yes'

Applied to close my other eBay account on Monday.  This morning, received notification that my monthly selling limit on that account has been increased to £100,000 per month, 'based on an evaluation of your selling performance.'  Not sold anything this year, so this really does not make sense and was not necessary. 🤔  If a ploy to persuade me to stay, it hasn't worked!  And, of course,  I can't contact anyone to tell them to stop sending me up-dates.  Most annoying Customer Service ever. IMHO.

Others too have been reporting they have seen their limits rise to  £100,000  some are seeing £10 million!

It's a glitch,  and not a ploy to keep you.  Though must admit can see why you thought that, with the timing of closing your account !
