I know there are lots of discussions about the new Buyer Protection Fees and no selling fees for private sellers.
I am a private seller, so am happy to sell with no fees. But, BIG BUT! I am having the buyer protection Fee removed from my sale!. So I am paying a selling fee!
The seller isn't paying it, I AM!
That isn't how I understood the way the new fees work.
I have been on Ebay for over 20 years, and happy to see positive developments.
This to me is negative, and I will be considering my future on the portal!

Because ebay were in fact deducting an amount from the bid price , before the fact !! This is yet another bone of contention , where ebay are 'corrupting' the bidding process..... i.e. people are not seeing the true bid price being applied . This is NOT going to end well !

How does that answer the question which was 'why did they not win'?

Yesterday I received an offer on a blu ray, which came through as £13.73. When I asked the potential buyer what offer they sent it was £15, so I was losing out. Fortunately they were amenable to s bit of negotation and I got a slightly higher price but the BPF seems to be a shambles, like everything else ebay have introduced lately.

Unfortunately this is the way offers work now and I don't think it will change.
A buyer initiated offer will be for the amount the buyer wants to pay for the item and will include the BPF, so the seller will see, and get, less.
A seller generated offer will be for what they want to receive for the item, and then will be increased by the BPF to get to what the buyer sees.
Once sellers understand the above it becomes easier to navigate and to know when to accept offers and what to counter with.

Erm , I've just told you ! ebay are interfering with the intended bid amounts....

Never mind what was said in my own thread ! In this specific case , ebay ARE interfering . ebay needs to sort out their screwed up 'system' , so that people can actually see happen , what they expect to see happen . If I place a bid on something , then I expect to see that precise amount be transmitted...... any bpf or other 'fees' should only be shown AFTER that point . As I have said , ebay need to put out a comprehensive clarification / video on this matter..... If they don't it's only going to cause more and more friction !

It doesn't matter what you expect to happen, or whether you agree with it, what matters is that it that it happens as ebay intended, which it does. Your bid is the amount transmitted to ebay, who then show the seller that amount less the BPF as the amount they will receive.
It would not be acceptable, or possibly even legal, for a buyer to be asked to pay more than they bid. With the exception of postage which is a known amount.

I think you meant to write, "The BUYER isn't paying it, I AM!" which confused people.
Yes, the seller is the one who is paying. They cut selling fees to suck people in, then added them back calling it buyer protection, when it doesn't even protect buyers.
I'm so glad that I didn't fall for it and starting selling again.
I am an ex-seller on their way to become an ex-buyer because of nonsense like this. I only found out about this today, and it's beyond a joke ... especially because it offers ZERO protection for when I need it, e.g. when a seller refuses to sell because the winning bid was too low ... which, of course, will happen more as more buyer leaves the platform.
Ebay's still doing nothing where the real problems are ... just making it more and more difficult to report people, leave feedback, take legal action etc etc etc.
It's like their marketing team sat down and said, "let's try and fool them by telling sellers and buyers the item is two difference prices; then tell them we're giving some new, when really all we are doing is giving them what we gave in the past".
For example, if a seller LIES and cancel a sales using a dishonest reason, Ebay blocks you from using resolution centre or putting in a counter claim.
The protection I want is they holding such seller liable.
One strike and they're out.
What's the current situation with regards "defects" ... how many defects are they allowed before anything happens?

ALL bid prices should be transmitted UNTOUCHED. Any deductions should only be factored in and shown AFTER that point..... Got nothing to do with asking people to pay more than the bid price....that is NOT what I said or intended

I think most things are VERY confusing here of late - its not straight forward and can be downright enfuriating. Anyone who disagrees should look at the constant complaints from sellers, buyers all saying they did not know or understand. All well and good saying read the T&C's - most people began here with a 'simple' auction site that has mutated into a 'business purely money motivated site that no longer wants private sellers.
Points for private sellers to note:
1 - Don't accept offers or YOU will pay the BPF - otherwise known as Obey Buyers Tax
2. Don't sell at an auction or again YOU will pay the BPF - otherwise known as Obey Buyers Tax
Point for buyers to note
1. You are liable for a BPF when you purchase off a Private Seller
2. Most Importantly - you will never find another cheap bargain off a Private seller - because its taxed
3. Enjoy buying off businesses, as they are all honest and unlikely to to be trying to rip you off - even if they do list in the UK but ship from China! LOL
4. Want cheaper deals - look elsewhere!!

I googled everything in my watch list (now deleted) and they were cheaper on other websites.
feeBay is toast.
