"New" items sold with limited return options

I remember once in the past with Ebay, and now again: buying an item from a seller that claims to be "New", still in original packaging, but with limited return option -- on the recent item, just 14 days (sic) for a new item!! But the item is defective, only surfacing after two months use. So does that account for the significant reduction of the item by the seller? It makes me suspicious about so called "new" items on Ebay which sell for reduced amounts. Another thing -- but typical for most online sites with feedback possibilities: if everything is Okay at the start, you leave a positive feedback, as we did with this item. But then if things go wrong, as with this item, you can't leave a subsequent feedback: Ebay states you've already done so, therefore can't again, or can't amend a previous.

My word of caution to buyers on Ebay: be careful with buying "new" items with only short return possibility and no proper 1 year+ warranty offered.

Have any others had experience on the above?

Most urgent things first: You typically have 120-days to initiate a chargeback with your payment provider in instances like this.

The 14 day return window only applies to 'Change of mind' returns when purchased from a Business Seller.   14 days from date of delivery is the minimum return period that Business Sellers are legally required to provide for online sales but many do provide longer.

If the item is 'Not as described' or 'Defective' then you are covered by eBay's Money Back Guarantee for up to 30 days from date of delivery.   Likewise you also have 30 days from date of delivery for a claim with PayPal and typically 120 days from date of purchase for a chargeback with your Card Issuer if you paid with a debit or credit card.

Any warranties are entirely between you and the seller and are only as good as your ability to enforce them.  Ebay does not get involved in warranty claims.

As for feedback, if you are still within 60 days of purchase then you can leave a follow up to your original feedback but you can't change a positive to a negative.

There are some items I wouldnt buy off ebay like computer parts or home appliances.

I can get up to 3 years warranty on them online with reputable dealers.

Yes, one learns ones lessons. Thankfully this wasn't a major appliance,
but the temptation to get a "new" milk frother for £50 instead of almost
£90 new elsewhere is high. I'll resist next time!

Thank you for the suggestion of 'chargeback' with the credit card
company. I'm tempted to use it, but seeing first what reply I get from
eBay (apparently they have a phone number somewhere, though difficult to
find). And the thing is, the milk frother functions 9 out of 10 times.
On the (approx) tenth it boils over at near 100c... So it's hard to show
evidence of malfunction.

As already advised, the 30-day window for returns under eBay's MBG has passed.

Please click on the following link for a callback from eBay if you still want to talk to someone...

As the milk frother so far works 9 out of 10 times without boiling over,
I'll probably just hold on to it rather than have the nuisance of more
comm's and justifications for returns, etc.
Just my word of caution for other eBay buyers: BE CAREFUL when buying
any appliance or electronic item (the milk frother had a bit of both in
it) when claiming to be 'New' but at a discount AND not offering any
more than the 30 day warranty. NEW ITEMS, if truly new and in order,
SHOULD CARRY THEIR MINIMUM ONE YEAR WARRANTY. Otherwise, something could
well be not in order.
