Seiko watch sellers have completely lost the plot. You'll find that these sellers over inflate the prices of even common vintage watches. I don't find ebay a good source to collect vintage watches anymore, not at the ridiculous prices they are asking.

No one forces anyone to buy,due dilligence etc....

Well buy them somewhere else then

Same with many categories.
Some sellers know that many buyers do not know of a world outside eBay.
So will cash in and take advantage.
Do you try other options to buy as mentioned above.

Perhaps high price to try and make a profit, ebay fees are possibly the highest on the net. Certainly excessive but at least you can sell things on here as cheaper fees do not necessarily equal sales.

I think it called making a profit.
It's never been easy to do that in eBay.
Whilst we pay 25-30% of our turnover in fees, we don't promote so I can only imagine some of the percentages other folk are paying.
And, of course, fees paid on postage. And taxes paid on fees.
Profit is what puts food on the table and employs people, many of whom only make a profit because they work an 80 hour week to make minimum wages.
If I were buying decent items for investment, watches would be a no brainer. And the popularity of an item drives the price, not someone 'taking advantage'.
It's not 'taking advantage' anyway, eBay is a sales platform. People don't have to pay the prices asked, we're not discussing essentials like bread.
And people don't always go for the lowest price, busiest shop I went to in London at Christmas was Harrods.

Notice my words "some sellers" used
Made sure I including that in case anyone thought I was tarnishing
all sellers with the same brush (Am one myself). But seems that`s what has happened.

Just wondering how you fees can be 25-30% 🤔

It doesn't take much, especially if your buying postage through Ebay, as it includes it in that figure.
It also includes the labels you pay for with returns.
The figure it gives you is generally not very good at all.
They shouldn't add in things like postage.

I often wonder that myself, sone months it's higher on one account!
14.9% fvf fees, plus VAT brings it to a shade off 19%, plus feature shop fees, international exchange rate fees due to high international sales, and - especially for sellers of lots of lower value orders - that 30p fixed fee has an effect greater than one would imagine.
Over the last couple of years we've managed to increase the average item value, which has meant we have dropped to around 30% fees, from an average of 34%.
Even selling higher value items and having only basic shops, that base of 14.9% plus VAT plus shop fees mean we struggle to get under 25%.
And the idea of promoting fees on top of this? Madness!

eBay's cost of sales has become ridiculously high therefore any item you buy on eBay is now overpriced by necessity as these costs have to be covered.
It's that simple.
eBay just don't get it though and that's why their platform is circling the toilet at the moment
