Hello people some one has found the opt out for SD on listing page go down to eBay new Sd click advanced settings and there will be a pop up. Click custom postage another pop up click on then all are couriers will be there as they were before this all started

·2 weeks agoI quite agree. It is a real pain. It is anything other than simple if you are selling large items,small items, heavy items then if over £20 it has to be simple anything but simple delivery so really 2 systems. It takes away options that are better for buyers and causes quite a few other issues. It is just one big headache.

·1 month agoI've sold something today for £2.50. eBay sent me an email with a link to a postage service that I never offered
I clicked the link just thinking it would take me to the sale and they automatically charged me for a service I never offered in the 1st place
I offered free postage but only royal mail 2nd class untracked otherwise I'd be selling at a loss which makes no sense. I dot know why they sent me this email. It has been frustrating working out how to cancel the shipping. I've done it now but they are still keeping the money for another few days. If they do this to a lot of sellers it all adds up and eBay will earn interest on our money.

·1 month agoPresuming it’s the jazz singer dvd it looks like eBay just recommended a postage option via their packlink setup.
You don’t have to use that postage, in fact you could just use your own postage in the form of stamps if you wanted.
Of course, it’s in eBay’s interest to offer you their delivery options.
The best recommendation is always check what you are clicking folks!

·1 month ago · EditedYes that is what it was. It was just a link that eBay sent letting me know it had been sold. I managed to figure it out and sent the item but it was a frustrating process. I specifically chose the delivery option I would be using bypassing their recommendations, they knew which service I was using they shouldn't send links like that in my opinion, if a supplier offers something to a customer and they go out of their way to let the supplier know they don't want it, sending links to their email to persuade them otherwise is just spamming
I have learnt my lesson I won't click their links in future.
Just out of curiosity how did you know what it was i have sold? I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to selling on eBay

·1 month agoYou can view items sold by seller just by clicking view listings here in the forum (or searching by your seller name). There’s then a filter on the left to show sold items

·1 month agoThis really makes me hate using Ebay - for small items I am struggling to sell because people are blaming ME that the cost is too high to post out!!! Ebay already skim off at least a fiver off every small sale in fees and postage already - which seems to be unclear to the buyer- so we get the flack. It's bloody outrageous. This gouging of customers by Corporations is beyond a joke.

·1 month agoI still use royal mail 48hr tracked on all my listings. it is a pain, because you have to relist all items individually, as the bulk puts you back onto Simple delivery

·8 months agoSelect Royal Mail only, eBay will cover you to £750 and over that you can do custom postage. Change via postage preferences link below. My Dad has sent antique books Royal Mail medium size, but only about £150 - that was with free royal mail collection bringing label.
But DHL has been added for over 20kg up to 30kg, and you can't turn that off.
I've just discovered Inpost has been added to SD, it's not on my listings yet but found it was on my parents. Like Evri about 8 miles to nearest drop off. Again you can turn it off via postage preferences.

You'll automatically be opted in to use all carriers that are available in this programme. If you would prefer not to send your items with a particular carrier, you can exclude them in your settings. Here's how:

·8 months agoWell i've just gone to list some CDs and magazines and simple delivery is now the only option at the cost of £2.72. Small A5 magazines I usually list at £3 and CDs often at £5, but that makes it unworkable now.
In the last 90 days I have sold 142 items that were sent by custom delivery which isn't an option now, so I shall not be listing any more here.
I was happy to use simple delivery for all items over £15 (whatever the size) and all larger items (LPs, Box Sets etc) and have found it is not a problem.
My sales have been buoyant and things were running smoothly, but now it looks like I need to find another sales outlet, and if I find one for the smaller items, then I will sell everything there instead.
Great business move there eBay!!!!

staying and I am tired of fighting eBay .
If I do not except new rules then leave .you can only call or bluff so many
times . I need a trusted courier for my size of boxes and weight but have
hope now as parcel force and Royal Mail are one but still eBay can over
ride me by saying buyer wants this when I know that is not true .just evri
never for my beloved collectibles

I list virtually every day as I need to sell a lifetimes worth of stuff as I want / need to move to a bungalow due to health issues. It has all changed today. There are no options for small items other than the up to 1kg at £2.72, and that is with Royal Mail.
Just signing up with V*nted as they now sell magazines. Not sure how good the site is, but only one way to find out i guess.......

We are giving the buyer free boxes free packing and are time but eBay just
gives buyers the cost of evri post.
Who in there right mind employs evri donkey post there standard is almost
10 days to delivery. But if you have shares in the company called SD it
does not matter about you or me .loyalty means s— all my 19 yrs are worth

·8 months agoYup, the envelope I used to post my last item cost me 89p — the item sold for £1.23 — the buyer paid more due to 'buyer protection' (which used to be a given in the sales terms and via Paypal), and the delivery was charged at £2.72, even though it would have cost me just £1.55 if I had the choice of customising the postage (as a private seller, I don't).

·8 months agoYou can opt out of Evri, and as long as you keep within Royal Mail sizing everything should be fine. I wish I could offer Evri because it would put the postage costs down a little.
Everything I've received via Evri has only taken 3 days (well the last 2 took 4 days but there was thick snow and ice!)

OP8 months agopostage and leave sellers to there chosen couriers. They still made money
for every label purchased .many had postage deals and having lost that many
have left
I sold a item and chose my normal couriers depending on my sizes
This has been a nightmare for sellers big and small and has been done for
money purposes only.and the poor buyers are being ripped off as well.
Even with a lower cost it would have been ok .eBay sadly are on route to
the sands of time having only themselves to blame
This does not reflect on other eBay sites and not all are this cruel .it
seems the UK has to pay the tally man if you want to stay and sell

·8 months agoI'm experiencing the same issue with 'Simple Delivery' — and my sales have gone down... In a similar situation to yourself.
FYI, don't expect much in terms of customer service or help when things go wrong with Vinted. IMHO, eBay at least are pretty good when it comes to that.

.all it will take is for eBay to back off put things back as they were and
give me my trusted couriers on eBay back they still made lots of money .but

·8 months agoI don't know if simple delivery is the cause of lower sales, my postage prices are pretty similar to how they were pre SD. I think eBay now expects you to pay to promote your items as there are no longer any selling fees...

Yes sellers fee’s are free but buyers are paying the price with an
outrageous percentage fee. That’s not fair. Yes keep SD but give us sellers
are choice of couriers but that is not what is happening is it.
As a seller I am selling my antique dolls which I have collected over many
years the size and weight is to high for evri and who would trust evri.
I posted with parcel-force next day packed very safely as antiques are not
covered for breakages only loss so a quick post is very important
But now I have no couriers for larger boxes and high value items .because
of my dolls and collectibles .that is not fair either
. EBay still made money if you bought your label from them but now greed
has taken over and beware Vinted is closing in

So not happy with simple delivery, inflexible and doesn't allow the seller to cover costs for packaging, like envelopes, bubble wrap etc and costs associated with transporting for drop-off. I feel like leaving eBay and am looking into other options. Not only is it unfair it's complicated and not transparent like before.

·9 months agoI've just had to go through all my listings to put Royal Mail back again after eBay frustratingly changed them to Simple delivery!, I am not happy about this at all as this is now the 2nd time I've had to do it. I trust Royal Mail and being elderly, my postie will collect from my home. This worked so well for me.

·9 months agoI have my preferences set to Royal Mail only (link here) and with Simple Delivery I can book a collection for free and get a label brought by postie. Just sent a heavy medium parcel today. The only downside is that eBay have an earlier cut off for booking a collection for the next day.
I've had one automated combined postage, which meant the buyer paid less than the 2 postages put together, but think I could still have got into large letter rather than the small parcel eBay chose.
I like that I can get a free collection...

·9 months agowell you were able to reset the listings to not be simple delivery, which I haven't managed yet! All I did was change to Royal Mail only via the link (Evri drop off is too far away), and eventually eBay built in collect and bring label, which is very useful. It's still the combined postage - though not many people buy 2 or more items from me - that isn't very satisfactory.

·8 months agoYou can specify a safe place if you can't be there, but I think if collection is from safe place you can only do one a day.

·10 months agoUnfortunately I haven't found that link to the pop up. I agree it's a mess. My son has used DPD for years successfully and now can't use them without first having to take a Royal Mail link, then being reimbursed for not actually using Royal Mail eventually, but still using DPD for his sales through my account. This also means of course that it's my NI number that will be linked if he continues to sell through me his modest items. And I may end up paying tax. I'm a pensioner so not happy about this at all.

As you are a pensioner, I guess your son is over 18 and could have his own Ebay account to sell from.

With 44 of these sold, HMRC would certainly consider you (somebody) were trading from this account.

·3 months agoThis may work for low cost items but I wanted to sell some arrows for £35 nothing wrong with the postage rate for 1kg but the length is limited to 61cm most arrows are 70 to 80cm.
I can alter to custom postage if I drop the starting bid to £5 as soon as I move it back to £35 it removes the Evri 120cm long option back to simple delivery.
why this is not a option in the drop down menu is beyond me has it was always there prior. So that another item I must sell some were else.

·3 months agoTry creating your own postage policy for that sized item first. When listing the item you put the package dimensions so it allows custom for being over-sized. Select your pre-saved postage policy. The custom postage should hold.

·10 months agoHi I have ended my listing and then gone to re-list. I then charged the category. When I then move to the postage if I change to letter, I have the option not to have sample postage.

·10 months agoIt probably says this somewhere in this thread already, but business sellers don't have to use Simple Delivery.
Private accounts are for sellers selling their own personal possessions, not members selling huge quantities of brand new items. (1,986 of the first item I looked at.)

sell new items under radar rather than sell as business sellers avoiding
the related fee’s
Now everyone is told you must hand over your details to tax officers so
everything is being looked at now. and once your limit is met taxes will be
taken that’s business and private now .so if private sellers who sell there
used items they avoid this until one item is sold is £6000 .so there is
nowhere to hide to get away avoiding SD or eBay in the future

To be honest I am tired of it all . and of eBay and there stupid
interference on my listings and many little sellers feel the way I do
The eBay I once knew is long gone replaced with a money grabber who does
not give a fig about us . I use to have a lot of listings of my bits and
pieces but now I can not be bothered
The saddest thing is so many of my friends and lovely sellers I knew are
gone and closed the door. So no matter what you do or try there is no
way anybody can avoid SD
After 20 yrs of being a member there has never been a time or exodus like
there is today and that is sellers across the board
Whether we like it or not there is no way we can avoid SD

If oversize is available I will always use it, no matter how small the item is. That way you can select "other courier 3-5 days" and use which ever postal option you want.

·10 months agoI sell a few low cost ~£3.00 items and send them out Royal Mail large letter (cost £1.55).
Went into edit listing today to find that if I do an edit and it said SD will be applied at the cost of £2.72
Only way round I can see is to select the oversized setting (which is stupid)
Didn't do the edit - so listing still remains with no SD
Ok for now - until I REALLY need to do an edit

·10 months agobut they are not making £1.17, if you select only RM (no evri drop off near me) then on large letter it is 2p more than Royal Mail, because it is tracked.
And you can via SD get free RM collection with label, which is useful to me.

·11 months agoWell it has been a roller coaster few months with the introduction of the buyers protection fee and SD and just decided to stick it out to see what would transpire. However I have come to the conclusion like so many genuine private sellers that it is just a money making scheme for eBay.
Not content with a fee that should be adequate to cover loss or damage should it occur they wanted to limit the choice of carriers and dictate postage rates. I really don’t see why business sellers should be able to post their items as they choose and private sellers are prevented from doing so.
My experience to date included eBay changing postage rates on an item that weighed 500g and was a small parcel. It should have gone to the buyer for £2.74 and I was making nothing out of the postal cost . I would post out by my choice of courier. However SD defaulted it to be sent RM 48 2kg and the buyer asked me why the postage rate had changed as they had had the item on a watch for some time.
A parcel sent RM small parcel showed no tracking after the item was dropped off. .......after the ETA buyer started sending messages asking where her item was and telling me it was still at the drop off point. It wasn’t as just not scanned or updated . eBay had posted in messaging that they would deal with the matter. Buyer still continued to message and I tried to explain that eBay have full control over the postal charge/ tracking and was up to them to sort out. I do always add a return address to all my parcels. No return as a lost parcel and still showing as dropped off but no updates on the parcel since 17th August or delivered by Snail Mail. I can only assume the buyer got a refund.....and possibly the item with no scanned updates.
A recent sale of a large framed picture was listed as collection or posted. The buyer paid SPF £2 and £4.50 for postage. However after purchase the buyer messaged me and asked if I could drop it off . As it was only about a mile away from where I lived and a breakable item it was the better option so agreed. She asked me if I could refund the postal charge and said I would have done this but no way of getting it back on her behalf. I don’t think she believed me. So in this instance eBay are not just coning us but causing buyers unnecessary concerns that is still directed at sellers. No skin off eBay’s nose just the ching ching of an extra £6.50 in the kitty for them. It really is nothing short of scandalous .
I do think buyers are being put off from buying on this site based on these changes and sales continue to drop off. After 22 years it may be time to call it a day.

Trouble is first port of call is the seller as we are being made out as the
problem the scapegoat to all of this .
EBay is never ever going to get back any loyalty they have had in the past
and rightly so .what is needed is a rival site the same as eBay’s then you
will see where loyalty is when all the lights go out and the door is shut.

·10 months agoSimple Delivery, is what it is - a "business decision" by ebay. I think it has some advantages for buyers/sellers but also some disadvantages - and there were many issues with how it was implemented - some of which still exist. Most of my auctions were smallish low value items and I had taken 90% of them down when BPF was introduced and am only now starting to relist those, now that BPF has changed and the SD limit has increased to (£20 and ) any weight large letter. To date, I've not sent anything Simple Delivery.
Paragraph 2 - what fee are you referring to? BPF only covers the customer service handling aspect of lost/damaged parcels, not the cost itself. Business sellers have different fees - and in any case individuals who are not businesses in the real world can choose to use business accounts on ebay.
P3 - you could send it for £2.74 (tracked?) but SD was (I assume) £2.94. Yes, some rates were more expensive (particularly large letter over 100g until the recent change), and some were cheaper. I would just send the buyer the link which explains Simple Delivery.
P4 - if the same had happened on a tracked parcel you arranged postage for, you would have needed to refund the buyer - if they claimed the item wasn't received.

I'm not trying to convince you Simple Delivery is great. I was perfectly happy arranging my own postage and I would rather continue to do it that way too, for most items. For more expensive items, I wouldn't mind using Simple Delivery.

I concur with most of what you say and trying to work around the "business decisions" eBay introduced whilst selling my private goods and like yourself reduced prices in the hope of generating more interest.
There is no denying there has been a significant drop in interest on this site and a mass exodus in light of the changes. In MHO Buyers Protection Fee is clearly an additional 'fee' levied to the buyer and previous to the changes made, lost/damaged parcels were always covered in the cost of the postage rate should this arise with extra cover should you need it, depending on which postal system or courier you chose to send your items out to the buyer.
It is not all doom and gloom with SD but I see little difference when it comes to the postage rate why private sellers, (like business sellers) should not be able to retain the wider choice of postal service used or opt out of SD if they wish.
Instead the charge levied is predetermined by eBAY on the goods to be posted and in many cases it certainly doesn't reflect the true cost that can be significantly lower to both the buyer/seller.
No doubt while eBay continue to tinkle with the works there will be other changes afoot!

·10 months agop4. my father sent a parcel SD (GSP) and it got lost, eBay dealt with it all. I think there wasn't a message from the buyer until it was all done and dusted. That is definitely easier than having to refund and claim from RM.

for loss when it’s in eBay’s GSP hands .
most sellers use this if they can but buyers can see a rough cost .but most
are put off by high prices So you only post to the hub and eBay does the
rest with GSP SD eBay uk only

·10 months agoYes I know GSP is different to SD, but the item gets sent to the hub via SD, and eBay said it was because it was SD they were dealing with it (although I think from the tracking it was GSP that lost it not Royal Mail)

·10 months agoWith Simple Delivery if buyer says item not delivered eBay do it all and refund the buyer, nothing for seller to do, that definitely is better than having to sort it out yourself. My father had an item get lost and basically because buyer had clicked "I didn't receive this", there was no contact between him and buyer until it was all sorted and they'd had their refund. It was very easy...
And the changing postage costs: I wrote a message on my listings during the change over saying that if the postage changed (went up) it was because of Simple Delivery

The best new’s is royal mail is now joined up to parcel-force who take up
to 1.5 long and 30 kilo weight so it does look better for the future .but
only if eBay stops giving buyers details only after you have down loaded
there label . We should know this on a sale of any kind . You have a
choice on listing evri or royal mail my tick is royal mail

delivery for a safer postal service they are having a laugh .what about the
heavier items .
why don’t they just leave the blooming postage alone as long as it’s
tracked what difference does it make .
and it is cheaper But eBay looses out on the perks discount which they do
not want .
If I down loaded a label for parcel-force they still made a profit from the
side line

The cheapest being £2.75 or near for a stamp and less than 10 grams

·11 months agoNot quite correct; I've just opened one of my listings that is for a magazine that weighs circa 50g, and, being a private seller, there is no other option but for the Simple Delivery, starting at £2.72 for a large letter. The item costs £1.55 to post (excluding packaging etc).

eBay .
It is black mail to withhold the buyers details until you down load there

The only address to use is the one in order details or on the SD label as that is the address the buyer has chosen at checkout.
It may not even be in the same country as the address on the invoice.
You don't have to use the SD label if you really don't want to, but that is the despatch address.

·11 months agoAgreed. And ebay don't seem to be acknolewdigng the fact that it's not just postage, but packaging also. I buy specific envelopes to send most of my items, and each of those envelopes costs me circa 50p, then there's the tape, the petrol to the post office or Evri/Yodel drop-off point, etc.

EBay is taking advantage from knowing we do this because then eBay does not
loose the amount the item costs
I have never understood why eBay treats us as they do because it was us
little buyer sellers who gave them there bread and butter back in the late
nineties otherwise they would still be in some one’s bedroom
Looking back eBay has taken advantage when it suits. as loyalty is not
worth it. And if there is one day a selling site like eBay the lights would
go out and the door shut

·11 months agoNot quite correct; I've just opened one of my listings that is for a small magazine that weighs circa 50g, and, being a private seller, there is no other option but for the Simple Delivery, starting at £2.72 for a large letter. The item costs £1.55 to post (excluding packaging etc). Indeed, it was an old listing that still had the custom delivery on it, but when revising it, ebay 'upgraded' it to Simple Delivery and the overpriced postage.

Fantastic news and huge win for sellers. I expect the sales numbers must have dropped significantly for management to change their decision.

·11 months agoNot sure if anyone has tried this.... Set the price initially to below £10 and other postage options are available. Choose your option, then go back and set the correct price.

·11 months agoas soon as you change the price the postage changes. But if you want to sell under £10 it seems possible to choose postage of any price.

·1 year agoSo last night, peed off as I was I decided to give eBay a call, after being passed from pillar to post with 3 different language speaking women, I eventually got through to a English speaking lady in the appeals dept who stated whoever processed the refund for the buyer did it incorrectly and shouldn't of taken the money off me, she instantly gave me all my money back for the router I sold which I posted with simple delivery and apologised, so a plus result.
Still won't be using it again now I know the work around.

·1 year agoIm selling a graphics card at the moment too, £300, it actually sold the other day, but good old ebay now hide the buyers address from you unless you buy a postage label, then you can see it on the postage label, so I messaged the seller and asked for his address and contact details, I noticed he had zero feedback and signed up July 2025, so he basically signed up to buy my card is the way it looks, I know we all have to start somewhere, but im not an idiot, I cancelled the order and blocked him, ive added to the listing, "do not waste yours or my time, if you are a new account and have zero feedback the order will be cancelled" not about to risk getting ripped off again.
So then a guy was messaging me 2 nights ago to buy the same card, but wanted to come around to collect it, he made a massive thing about me requesting bank transfer or cash on collection, wanted to know why I wouldnt accept ebay payments, why should I wait 48 hours for my money and give him the chance to claim it back, never knowing any of his details (address etc) and him walk away same day with a nearly new GPU, told him if he didnt like it that way, he can buy it through ebay and have it delivered, he wouldnt stop going on about it so sorry but I told him to £^&% off, because that didnt sound suspicious at all either did it.......again, im not an idiot.
