Here's the problem, beyond this. This email was sent to my old ebay account's email address, not this ebay accounts email address. The two accounts aren't connected at all.

Somebody has messed up.

It seems this might be a sophisticated phishing scam.  If its from ebay it will also be in your messages.

I'd like to understand how they tied the two accounts together. Only ebay officially knows and payment systems.

I found one of these scam emails in my spam folder a few days ago.  I'd like to know how the scammer was able to connect my ebay account to my personal email address.  Ebay doesn't allow me to give my email address to potential buyers unless they actually buy something but somehow a scammer has been able to get it.  What other information may they have been able to access from my ebay account?

The short answer, snivelserpent, is any information you have given to eBay: name, address, contact number(s), email address, bank sort code and account number, credit or debit card details as a stored payment method and (soon, if you haven't already been asked) National Insurance Number.

My account was hacked a few years ago. Fortunately, because I have never registered a linked payment method, the hack was limited to my account making offers on £25,000-worth of items. And before anyone asks: No, I don't use my eBay password on any other site so it must have been obtained from eBay.

I stopped selling when MP was introduced because there was never the remotest chance that I would hand over my bank details to eBay. They'd be just as secure as giving them to a complete stranger in the street.
