So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

The whole thing is now one big confusing mess...how do you make something which was so simple so complicated?

I've now put all my sales (and purchases) on hold for 3 weeks just to see how this plays out.

By then we'll see how many sellers have had to wait the full 14 days to get "confirmation" that their item has been delivered & whether they've been paid OR whether they're having problems with payouts etc.

I gave you a kudo for how polite you were in your reply to such a distorted post.  They've tried facts and some reasonable arguments but failed to persuade many.  So resorted to fantasy.

The problem, if any exists, is still unregistered businesses pretending to be private sellers and completely ignores the possibility that desperate correctly registered businesses are even more likely to try cutting corners when their income is under threat.

Yet again this problem has nothing to do with the honesty of private sellers in general.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

'The distinction between private and business sellers on eBay is eBay’s own policy, not a legal requirement.'

It is a legal requirement for a business seller to have their name address and contacty details on their listings .

This is to comply with Consumer Law.

It is totally against all ebay policy for a *private* seller to have any contact details at all on their listings (to prevent 'off ebay' sales)

If ebay were to have *all* sellers have their contacts details on their listings , ebay would just be one huge, free, advertising board and make no money.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

Thank you - so frustrating and I am sure not alone in this... agreed regarding unregistered business /private masqueraders... which eBay should have addressed a long, long time ago, as it is nothing new whatsoever. Saddened that genuine good and honest private sellers seem to be the " kicking" post.

Politeness and kindness goes a long way as told to me by my late Mother. It has worked for me... so far 😉

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

I don't think it is just private sellers becoming the kicking post.

The Simple Delivery side of this roll out could cause pain for both buyers and sellers. Someone buys something fragile and rare. Something they've always wanted. SD tells the seller package parameters based off item weight and the package isn't strong enough to survive sorting/transit with heavier items. Not the sellers fault, they have no choice. eBay being "clever".

No, ebay following the way the whole flamin' world is going. 🙁

Automated computer systems that do 95% of things just fine.

That answer 95% of questions just fine.

That solve 95% of problems just fine.

The 5% awkward squad can s*d off.

All companies can make up the loss of telling 5% of customers to do one, by the savings they make on not having to have human staff.

Unfortunately , that 5% of oddities  (and people!) can often give life it's interesting edges and corners. The  easily computer-sortable, uniform 95% of everything will end up getting rather dull in a few years..

They do exist, have a list of 16 of them, mostly buying from the same wholesalers that I did. As of this morning except for one all are still on ebay using private accounts.

You make them sound like a bunch of Lemmings. "Follow the leader, straight off the cliff".

But alas, you are right. In my experience most of the people I have met in my life only have the capacity to copy/follow. The innovator/leader types are a very rare breed.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

Yep, do they expect all private sellers to invest in a weighing machine or have access to a printer if they roll out simple delivery? I mean I print my own labels out when shipping items because it works out cheaper for the customer. It can be a real pain in the neck though, weighing items and filling out the customs forms and codes etc when you're selling internationally. It will also cost international customers significantly more if eBay expect everything to be sent tracked, sellers will have to pass on the costs.

This being implemented along with buyer fees could spell real disaster for eBay.

Years ago when you sold  something on ebay if something sold in the morning then your money was in your account later that day .Now we have to practically beg for our money .Why are ebay copying Vinted ? Ebay are always fiddling with things ,you would think they would want the buyers and sellers but they work against us constantly .

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

I have taken off 50% of my listings, (I mainly sell vinyl records for a hobby/beer money) plus changed my remaining listings to now be sent via Royal Mail Tracked.
Which has made all my items more expensive, so I don't expect any of them to sell.

I have listed everything that was on eBay , on Discogs Market place instead.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

I’ve been deleting my items slowly since the system has not changed and seems to be chaotic at the moment. I’m ending listings and since I’m transferring them all over to another site, just checking them through and adjusting as required. I shall also not buy here again, but I will be checking items out and asking sellers if they list elsewhere - since I’m sure in most cases they will, especially when they see people like me refusing to buy here! They may also ask me where I now list???

Onto Private or business? How do you define it, some people see volume as therefor must be business. Not so, it took me ages to build up 600 items and they were all my own and it would not be that difficult over time to make it 6000 if I really could be bothered. We’ve all got that much tat we are drowning in it - and one man’s treasure is another man’s junk.
I know it’s easy to tell some businesses trading as private, but at times when someone has built up a lifetimes collection it can look as though it’s a business!
I’ve just inherited my brothers stamp collection, I already have my own which I don’t want and also remains of my late father in laws collection. I want rid and have been selling in small lots - plus because it’s stamps, I put stamps on every stamp collectors parcel - do they want a Label - No course they don’t, they want the commemorative stamps on the envelope or parcel - so this makes a nonsense of obeys ‘simple delivery’.

So realistically obey could be looking at losing all those stamp listings quicker than they think.
This whole idea has been badly thought out and whoever looked at Vinted and thought they had a good platform model which must then surely work for obey as well was seriously badly informed. It will end in tears!!

Depends how many years you go back. Years ago, if buyers paid by paypal it took 4-5 days to withdraw to your bank account. If payed through paypal by echeque it took 7 days to just clear to paypal ( many did not clear at all). A lot of buyers paid by cheque so you had to wait for the cheque to arrive in the post and then take it to your bank and wait  5 days for it to clear ( or not clear). You also had buyers sending postal orders or even cash through the post that you had to wait for.
But yes, times have changed and sellers expect their money instantly nowadays.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

You cannot tar all private sellers with the same brush! I have always gone out of my way to make sure my buyers have had the best service they could and have been rewarded with 100% positive feedback and regular customers. As a buyer also over the last 20 plus years I have genuinely had a lot more problems with business sellers regarding shoddy goods, late delivery etc than I have had with private ones. There are good and bad sellers in both sectors so ebay should have addressed that fact, rewarding the good ones and penalising the bad sellers ONLY! I have seen many business sellers on here with multiple negative feedback but can still carry on regardless.

Partly because we are now expected to post almost instantly. (within a day or two at least....)

Back in the day of cheques clearing, paypal delays and etc, we were told *not* to post until we had the money!

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

Correct, we were warned not to post until payment had cleared... if a buyer paid by echeque that could be a week or so of waiting before posting.

It worked and no one was upset, seller or buyer.

Albeit I did risk it a few times particularly in the busy period to post before clearance with no issues.

You're speaking about that as if they stopped saying that along time ago. I was still getting the don't post until you are paid messages last year.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

Totally agree with you. All of my best buying experiences on eBay for Warhammer models have been with private sellers. Some of them have truly incredible service levels. The business sellers in the same field don't have anywhere near the same service levels and over time I've used most of them.

With the biggest I can understand why. The sheer volumes they are dealing in would prohibit a bespoke service but there are plenty of business sellers that don't reach those levels (at least here) and don't do next level service either.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

I ended all my listings last night and gave fleabay the requested 'feedback.' Told them i wasnt prepared to sell my items here anymore and have to wait until the buyer receives the item before I get paid. Also said it makes selling small value items too much of a risk. Of course fleabay wont take a scrap of notice because Vinted is the same: You dont get paid as a seller until the buyer OK's the receipt.

Re: So...anyone else put their sales on hold...?

Not always  - if you go into completed listings but untick SOLD its usually to be found, especially if you can do a good stab at the title.  I've googled a few 'lost' items (every monthly stocktake a number of listings are 'missing' - we all make mistakes but I'm sure I'm not THAT  cack-handed) and always managed to find a few that way.

Ref your comment about eBay.UK figures, they are out there but take a lot of finding - I'll see if I can find anything interesting later.

Apparently the last quarter figures are delayed, should be out shortly.

Also, a FVF percentage increase has been announced for eBay.com - I wonder if the new buyer protection will be extended to UK business sellers instead of an increase?  EBay.Uk does seem to have the most impressive fees of all the eBay sites so perhaps a stealth increase might be an option, especially if the loss of fvf fees for private sellers pulls down the 4th quarter UK figures - which it surely must.  Then again, perhaps we will get the BP AND a fvf increase, eBay really is the gift that keeps on giving.
