Royal Mail tracking looks wrong.

I posted a tracked 24 parcel to a buyer yesterday morning.

This morning, all within the space of a minute or so, tracking went from 7.24am - out for delivery, 7.24am - delivered, then delivery expected by 3pm.

There is no uploaded photo of delivery, or coordinates.

On Ebay tracking is showing as delivered, as it is on the Royal Mail site, but the Royal Mail site also still has

Ready for Delivery

We normally expect to deliver to your address by 3:00pm
Your Item was received by Hounslow DO on 12-09-2024 and is now due for delivery today.

above the tracking showwing out for deliver,/delivered at 7.24am.

I was wondering if the postie could have clicked the delivery button by miskake?
Or, because it's a business address, marked as delivered because Royal Mail hold the mail for the business at the delivery office?

I was initially inclined to think it was most probably something to do with eBay's system but reading your entire post it appears that the tracking history is the same on Royal Mail's website so it's not that.

Either of the possibilities you mention is a plausible reason but you'd really need to ask RM directly to find out if either is true. My best guess is that if the destination was a business address the parcel was scanned as delivered at Hounslow DO at 7.24am then added to any other mail for the business so itcould all be delivered in a sack or sacks without the need for the driver to scan all required mail.

Other than contacting the business to see if they have actually received the parcel I don't really know what to suggest.

Thank you!

That's my gut feeling too.

I was already  twitchy as it was a large business address rather than a private address, so I monitor tracking more closely on those.

I just wish Royal Mail was more transparent and clear with it's tracking.

I had a special delivery scanned as delivered and signed for including a picture taken in sorting office last month. Luckily it arrived with buyer next day 2 days late.

I put a claim in and got my £12.15 postage cost back.

Royal Mail do have specific arrangements with some businesses that items are scanned at the mail centre rather than at the point of delivery. Your recipient should know this so it shouldn't be an issue.

Or it could be a mis-scan in which case there will be a later update.

Royal Mail tracking looks wrong.

This happened to me recently and i ended up with 2 separate items. For some unknown reason RM had reprinted the label for the item coming to me onto another item so i got 2 packages with  the same label. I'm still miffed as to who sent the items I got as the seller i bought from has no idea either. The label is clearly on both items tho

I had a failed RM delivery.I live in Ipswich tracking showed delivery to parcel, label had the correct address for that house. Seller claimed parcel OF 'lost' and would send another. Looking at feed back for Seller in negative, neutral and positive several accounts of same thing happening. Positive when seller did send 'lost' item again negative when they did not.  I have had many parcels I have sent and received Royal Mail they are no better or worse than other delivery companies, mostly o.k.. It seems all to easy for a seller with an incompetent dispatch department to blame the delivery company,as long as Ebay compensates (open and shut case with me so they will) I guess most customers leave it at that.Clearly seller is not dishonest if they were they would not give genuine tracking numbers, incompetent, obviously from the feedback.
