Pre-loved selling better than New items?

Hi there,

I have noticed that my pre-loved designer labels are selling faster than my brand new items that are heavily discounted. Is this normal here?

Thanks!

Re: Pre-loved selling better than New items?

Do you not have the jeans there to measure them? Seeing if you can find out the measurements seems a slightly odd way to put it. Anyway I agree that waist and inside leg measurements are a minimum for listing trousers. If you don’t have a tape measure, buy one.

I think not accepting returns on clothing is not a principle worth having when selling on an internet platform. and I find listings that state things like ‘please ask any questions / be sure this is what you want before buying as sorry no returns’ quite offputting. It just tells the buyer that if they want to return the item they have to go straight for ‘not as described’ to be sure of getting a refund. If they actually believe that no returns are possible many will just not buy.

I think you should try raising your prices, I do agree with the pp who said they look too cheap to be true for genuine items.

Improve your titles and lose things like ‘designer’, ‘tailored’, ‘red’ ‘charcoal’, ‘Uk’ and ‘size’ as the first word (always start with the brand name, then the item name then the size, and keep it simple - unlike amazon and etsy cramming as many words in there as possible doesn’t help) and try not doing everything auction style,  many don’t want to spend a week bidding for a pair of sandals or a t shirt and perhaps lose the item at the last minute, they just want to buy, now! I don’t think I’m the only one who won’t bid on an auction.

If  you offer returns, more people will be confident to buy in the first place and the buyer will pay the return postage if they do want to return. There will also be less chance of a buyer making up a reason or damaging an item as the only way they see to get a return, which will be at your expense.

BNWT is brand new with tags.

Re: Pre-loved selling better than New items?

That's brilliant advice, thank you 🙂 Someone else on this thread advised me on how to properly measure them (which I never knew how to do before) so I will read up and get that done ASAP. I'm a bit of an overthinker, and didn't want to measure it incorrectly, and leave a buyer with an item that doesn't fit. Thank's again, you often reply to my queries 🙂👍

Re: Pre-loved selling better than New items?

What I used to do when selling my clothes, was  not only to add the measurements of waist,  length,  inside leg,  whichever was relevant to the item into your description box,  but I also photographed a tape measure along those salient points,  in the photo section.

Add  measurements in inches and centimetres,  leave no  room for error, or misunderstanding !  🤔

Good luck,  as I think clothing is one of the most difficult categories to achieve successful sales, now.

Re: Pre-loved selling better than New items?

I agree that clothing is difficult to sell or rather involves a lot more effort. Every so often I pull a heap of clothing Ive not worn out of my wardrobe, some still have tags on, and I look at that heap, briefly ponder ebay and then bag it all up for charity 😂 people tell me to try the v place but honestly, I hate change and I hate new (I take ages to get to grips with new ever since my surgery) so I bag and donate instead.
