Hi everyone, hoping to get some advice please. I recently sold a Lyndhurst Filofax which was in fantastic condition. Before I dispatched it, I messaged the buyer telling him I would be sending it and provided the Tracking Code. He immediately started going on about damaged filofaxes. I told him this one was in pristine condition so he didn't have to worry. I packaged it up in the Lyndhurst box, with paper and bubble wrap and then in a jiffy bag and sealed with lots of sellotape. . He contacted me this morning and sent photos of a Lyndhurst that had the inside metal binders ripped out and it was damaged. It didn't look remotely like the Lyndhurst I had sent. He wanted to know what I was going to do about it. I immediately contacted ebay and I have reported the seller and have accepted the returns and then ebay said that they will carry out a thorough investigation as they can see by the photos I provided that the Lyndhurst was in perfect condition. I completely refuse to believe that the Lyndhurst I sent got damaged because it was too well packaged up and to even get the product out of the original box, you would have to put your thumb and finger in to even pull it out. The buyer was bombarding me with messages and still is, but ebay have told me not to reply etc anymore whilst they do their investigating. I am absolutely horrified that this has happened to me I really am. I know this buyer is trying to scam me. His address is in the UK but his location is on China. Is there any advice that anyone could give me as I am honestly a complete wreck. I am an honest person just trying to make a few quid and this happens. I will never ever sell on ebay again. I have read about people's terrible experiences selling on ebay but never ever thought it would happen to me. Please give me any advice you can, because I don't know what to do! Thankyou

There is nothing more you can do, as you have proceeded correctly, reporting this to eBay. They have your photos of the item sent and photos of the item received, it is now in their hands, you just have to wait as it can take a few days and seemingly not a lot happens over weekends so may be a little longer to wait.
You never know the buyer may have a record of doing this, they will look at their account too.
I'm so sorry this has happened to you, and yes a horrid experience when you have come across a bad buyer, but truly, they are few and far between, thankfully not the norm, you could probably go on selling for decades now, and never come across a similar incident.
Don't allow this one bad transaction paint a bad eBay picture for you.

I would've sent an eBay message asking if they've got you mixed up with another seller and purchase, only because the photo they've sent is not one of the item that was sent out by you.
This just so there's a message that eBay can look at, it's all part of the big picture then.
Just a point - if your buyer had that sent to a third party freight forwarder then they're not covered by eBay's Money Back Guarantee. Do you know if it was sent to a freight company or a private address?

It is horrible what you have experienced. Me personally if the buyer started saying about a damaged item before I dispatched it. I would have immediate cancelled that transaction and blocked the buyer. What you have said does sound like a scam and that was his intent to either bully you into a full refund or send back a faulty item with you paying for it.
Firstly you should block the buyer now to prevent potential other issues, even if you do consider to selling in the future, at least he is blocked for life. You can do so by copying his username in here.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/bmgt/BuyerBlock
Secondly, If you have already started a return. Ignore any messages sent to "My Messages" and go through the message system in the return only. When you appeal, eBay CS will not make a decision from "My Messages" unless you call up CS to point it out.
Unfortunately for you, you can not prove what you sent to the buyer or what they even returned. Photos or video are not proof, you could of swapped it out and taped it up. So eBay have to go by resetting the transaction. You get your item back, buyer gets his money back.
Unfortunately that will all come at your expense. Unless eBay rule in your favour for the appeal and then eBay will either refund the buyer or out of their pocket, send the sale price back to you minus fees.
After you get the item back, and that's if the buyer even send its back from China. You report a problem with the item before closing the return case. Call CS if you have to.
If the buyer dont send it back to you within the time frame, assume you can check a tracking number to see if it has even been posted. Call eBay CS and ask them to close the case. DO NOT escalate the case, this is done by robots and always against you most of the time. Talk to a human being.
Call eBay CS at 8am in the morning will increase you chances of getting either German or Ireland customer service instead of India or other aisa countries.
Others can advise more.

I note that @stormatic2015 has advised you to contact eBay Customer Services. This is excellent advice; however, if you want the link to get through to them then here it is: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5275&mkevt=1&mkpid. The lines are open from 8:00am to 10:00pm Monday to Friday, and from 9:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Once you click on the link scroll right down to the bottom of the page and click on the blue “Have Us Call You” button. As advised earlier on in the thread, it is best to request a call early on in the morning.

Thankyou for taking the time to get back to me, I really appreciate it. I sent the filofax to a UK address but when I clicked the buyers profile it says - Location - China. I am so upset by what has happened I really am. The item I sent was beautiful, more or less brand new. They have either swopped it or damaged the filofax themselves deliberately. I am not exaggerating when I say I am so so very upset by it all.

Thankyou for getting back to me, I appreciate it. I dispatched the filofax to a UK address but on his profile it says - Location - China. I had a weird feeling by their rambling messages, but I sent it all in good faith. There is no way that the damage could have happened, it was wrapped so carefully, it was in the original box, in a jiffy bag, sealed all safely. He is definately scamming me and I am deeply upset by it all.

Thankyou for getting back to me. Everything is going through ebay now. I am just so upset about the whole experience. Hopefully this will be resolved ASAP, because the whole experience has made me ill.

Thankyou for getting back to me. Honestly you are all so helpful and kind. I just cannot get over how some people are so dishonest on ebay. This experience has made me quite ill. The buyer is definately a scammer. I just pray that ebay will agree with me. I will wait to see if the buyer returns the item and go from there. Either way I will not let the buyer get away with this. He was actually messaging me about faulty filofaxes before I even dispatched it. Apparently ebay have all these messages.

It sounds like he has a UK delivery address, and isn't using a third party freight forwarder if he's already in receipt of the filofax, which is a shame as he is then covered by eBay's Money Back Guarantee.
So, in that case, the usual sequence of events here would be to accept the return, get your item back and, if it's been swopped for another, go straight away onto the Actionfraud website and log this.
You then quickly need to let eBay have the Actionfraud reference number and let them know that you've received a different item back to the one you sent out. There should be a "Report a problem" link in your return case, so select "Different item returned" as the reason and add the Actionfraud reference number and information.
I'd also contact eBay and go over this with them.

Thankyou so much, I will follow your advice.

Google the buyers address and see if its a freight forwarding company or a private residential address.
I know things like this are upsetting but please try not to get too upset.
