Viewing an item prompting automated & quot;Offer from seller" is not a good selling technique

Simply viewing an item for sale on eBay seems to prompt an offer from seller afterwards a couple of times is so annoying and a turn off.

I think it's a lowly technique,puts people off and shouldn't be done.

Offers most definitely do work.

I see that your selling clothing, which is exactly the same as this account.

I send out offers of 10%, no higher, no lower.

The result is, the on average, a total third of my sales are from these direct offers.

A third, from offers made by customers.

And the rest, at full sale price.

I do also use the Ebay coupon discounts, which to be honest doesn't help that much at all.

But it certainly doesn't hurt and when they are covering some of the cost, makes it worth doing still.

The many different ways of selling on eBay comes under the umbrella of competition which, overall, is good thing... ultimately.

Offers from buyers doesn't count in the context of this posts title.

You or eBay sending out offers randomly responding to a view is the point of this post.

When I send out offers (which are directed to watchers) it is usually ineffective.

If I've sent 50 of these offers to watchers in a year I can only think of one or two resulting in a sale.

I sent about 80 offers just today, 15% to the first 50 watchers and %20 to the rest. That`s fine though, I`ll probably stop sending offers for a while. It started to feel like I might be shooting myself in the leg. And yes I can see when a seller generated coupon is used for each sale. As for Ebay coupons, I have to wait until the Ebay report is generated.

Thanks for reply, offers at that level are very generous, would have thought a lot of sales from it, if not it may suggest a lot of browsing activity. I've only ever seen coupons as a buyer, I've no knowledge as a seller.

Regardless of whether they do or not, I still get a full 30% of my sales from direct offers to customers, that are sent in this way.

That alone makes it worthwhile doing.

And though you obviously haven't thought it.

Whether you have sent one out, or a hundred makes a big difference here.  As the more you send out, the more your likely to get a hit with them.  50 offers in a year is nothing.  I'll send out 20 in a day.
