Hi All
So bear with me if this gets a little long-winded. 2 months ago I sold a high value item (£5.7k) in an auction. The item was shipped and arrived with no issues and I've had no messages from the seller since. So I had no reason to assume they were anything other than satisfied. I also offer free 30 day returns and they made no attempt to return the item during that period.
This morning I've logged in and gone through my messages and seen that they've filed a payment dispute (at 2am, which seems very odd) claiming that the item is not as described. Now the item is a graded pokemon card, which has its own unique certificate number and barcode that can easily be verified on the website of the grading company. I had verified the cert number myself at the time of purchasing the card and it checked out then, I've checked again today to make doubly sure and the card is verified on the grading company website.
I've spoken to Ebay concierge and they've passed the case on to the Trust and Safety team and are going to call me back later today with more advice. Does anybody have any recent experience of high value payment disputes? I had one on Ebay in late 2020 where somebody in Canada attempted a chargeback scam. I was told at the time that I would almost certainly lose because banks always found in favour of their customer. I ended up winning that case but haven't had any payment disputes since so have no idea if processes have changed or not.
This feels like an attempt at a scam, as they haven't sent me a single message since they paid for the card and made no attempt to return it. Opening the dispute at 2am is also a little suspicious, it's as if they were opening it at a time where they thought there was less chance to see and respond to it.
The problem is that in the dispute I can only see the reason they've given for opening. I can't see what, if any evidence, they've uploaded and so have no idea exactly what they are claiming.
