Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

Hi

We have been selling on ebay for over 10 years. Sales have been down since start of 2024 but its completely dead. Like we look at our stats from July to September and sales figures are less that what we are paying ebay for Promoted listings etc.

Although we have moved our inventory to Amazon and tiktok but wondered what has actually happened to our Ebay. It used to be aweseome but we now cannot even afford to list.  Listings are sat there doing nothing even with promoted listings.

November has been our difficult month so far as with Zero sales i mean come on there got to be something causing this loss. Is it new so called AI.

Please share your findings.🤔🤔

🤔🤔🤔

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

I have been selling on eBay for 20 years.
My business did very well. I was able to employ people to help Fri the business.
For the past 18 months I have seen a nose dive in sales. My business is no longer sustainable.  I have had to let everyone go, so sad.
Sales are erratic and I seem to be paying more in fees than I get paid out from eBay.

it used to be such a joy to sell on eBay, but now it causes me so much anxiety.
I don’t understand what has happened.

Someone inside of eBay decided to press the SELF DESTRUCT BUTTON ! when they set about making changes after changes after more changes and of course THEY WERE NEVER FOR THE BETTER as you can now see by your SHARP DECLINE IN HEALTHY AND REGULAR SALES.

If I was in charge of eBay I would have LEFT IT WELL ALONE just like it was originally setup in LATE 1995 as it worked 100% well for both buyers and sellers alike - SIMPLICITY was a huge PLUS - Now in Smartphone age... some person in eBay decided that they ought to make eBay for Smartphone users only ??... never mind that 80% of most eBay users are still using LAPTOP AND DESKTOP PC'S in their offices ! to buy and sell on eBay...

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

Hi
I think a certain amount is caused by the lack of disposable income and
buyers are much more focused on what they buy.
But eBay doesn't help by changing the way they operate and if you don't pay
extra you know your listings will not receive the same exposure so what are
we paying our listing fee for.
I selling most of my stock now at cost or below cost to move it and if
others have to do the same it will hit eBay the same as it is hitting us.
With eBay it's never their fault even if there is a technical problem it's
never them.
Bring back the old classic eBay that worked perfectly well.

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

Ebay will need to make a significant improvement in the new year to tempt business sellers to stay on here!

They have made damaging decisions to the platform.

Had a credit voucher for promoting offside, what a waste of time as it makes no improvement.  Apparently according to ebay stats, external views up 20% but made no improvement to sales and at £10 budget per day do ebay really think they can keep draining money from sellers and give nothing back?

What does listing fee, final fee and regulatory fee pay for and provide?  No advertising and no sales.

Ebay haven't even bothered providing any monthly  seller update since October I believe,  says it all!!!

Many other platforms await bussellers in the new year

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

There are far less buyers than there was even a couple of years ago and the big killer has been promoted listings and the manipulated search that supports the PL nonsense.

Even if you have enough margin to be able to promote at the maximum percentages it neither guarantees visibility or sales and businesses need the stability of regular income, especially if you employ others.

Type pretty much any search and you’ll see what I mean. First you can only see the items eBay wants you to see (sponsored), not everything that’s listed. Then you try to read the description and you’ll see sometimes pages and pages of promoted items all over the listing and worse, half of them have nothing to do with what you were looking for!

Buyers hate this, sellers hate this, both are leaving the site and are no longer being replaced.

Ebay cornered the online market, especially for used goods but ruined the concept by trying to become another Amazon.
There may be time to salvage something but if they carry on like this, only giving a few sporadic sales to sellers and only then if they pay double fees, I really cannot see them surviving much longer.

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

Even as a private seller that understands that selling in one niche can be erratic and slow it becomes obvious that something is very wrong with ebay.  I agree with what you say about the manipulated search and PL.

For the past 2 years I sold 13 items p.a. , this year 4.  A few years ago I was selling 4 items a month.  10 years ago I was selling 4 items on a good week.

As even a private seller who isn't under the pressures of making a living from ebay, listing even 1 item each week becomes soul destroying after a few months of no sales and watching the lengthening list of re-listed but unsold items, every one of which has Watchers.  Some of them watching for months.

Eventually, unless you're a hopeless optimist, you have to ask "What's the point, I'm just wasting my time here."  Especially when another site, tiny by comparison, never advertises on TV and doesn't claim to have a world-wide audience of millions, manages to get 28 sales.  Most of which have been previously listed on ebay, sometimes for months, but I suspect have never been seen by a would-be buyer.

Right, I've more than had enough of eBay's over manipulated searches and very poor sales lately, plus all their recent changes which have now made the eBay platform impossible to sell on and way too over complicated for my liking, so I have now taken the decision to resume all my sales on the "other site" you keep saying about  come early January 2025.

I lasted here on eBay for almost 18 years selling my old locks and Emco Unimat items with a good degree of success until recent years when eBay just started making constant unnecessary changes gradually chipping away at everything that was unique and original to eBay, making it harder and harder to  understand and use for basic simple sellers who don't have a degree in IT or brain surgery !

One day eBay will realise that all these changes have cost them dearly when more and more people leave eBay and don't use it regularly anymore.

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

And I think a lot of private sellers and small businesses alike are coming to the same conclusion.
Less sellers, less choice, less buyers, fewer sales, more sellers leave…….repeat.

No amount of “it’s free to sell” will keep private sellers here either if their stuff isn’t selling.

And as I’ve said before, no point as a business in promoting your items to death to (possibly) get to the top of search if no one is here buying them.

Ebay really does seem to struggle lately.

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

We have just had the best christmas sales in two years on here however october and november were shocking. I am convinced something was going on with ebay and the search in those two months and now its like a switch has been flicked and turned us back on. January onwards? I'm not so sure as people and businesses are going to be hit big time by the government and my accountant says its almost certain they will cause a recession first quarter of next year.

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

To be  fair I also had a few sales in late November and in early December 2024... then it died again  😞

The most off putting for me is eBay's ludicrous idea of Managed Shipping.

I will not have this, I will  not be dictated to which postal service I can and can't use to get my buyer's items delivered safely and worry free.

Sorry, I feel very strongly about this. and will NEVER feel comfortable with sending my items to eBay for them to then resend to my buyer by god knows what delivery service - which will more than likely be HERMES / EVRi  ! ! !  as eBay seems to favour EVRi for some  reason because they are CHEAP.

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

I think you are right about a recession on some scale.
I always scale right back approaching Christmas as my main eBay sales are seasonal Spring/Summer. I won’t know how they will perform until I relist in February.
There is however a very obvious switch on/switch off with sales/views though and that is apparent on both my private and business accounts. One minute they are great, lots of views, questions, sales then dead for weeks.

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

If it’s like Vinted, as a seller you can choose which postal options you are willing to offer and the buyer just chooses from those. I know this is eBay though so it may not be so straight forward!

If so, nothing stopping you only offering RM if you wish, just that the buyer will purchase the label for you to print and send.

Where I live, EVRI is actually more reliable than RM but I know we’re lucky to have a long-serving and caring delivery lady. Some areas can be awful.
RM on the other hand have been told not to bring anything back to the sorting office so have a habit of leaving your parcel under the car, in the wheelie bin or over the back gate out in the rain.
They no longer put a card through either and I’m fairly sure they don’t even bother knocking half the time as there is nearly always someone here 24/7 yet several parcels get left outside.

The only one worse is Amazons drive by parcel ‘launch’ service. Good luck with them if anything breakable inside 😂

It is not only you but it is happening to, I think, everyone. They are killing us. In my case sales are down by 70%. Give it another year and it will come down to absolute 0.

I wonder how that will work for me, at present I use Click and Collect.  Will the buyer specify what day for my collection?  There's some foggy issues here, but rather than guess, I'll wait until the new system comes in, end everything, watch the forums, then decide whether to relist or go elsewhere.

Love the idea of leaving a parcel under your car.  How does that work out in Northern Ireland, I wonder!  🙂

Calm down, dear!  🙂

I've not seen anyone else suggest that we'll all be sending our items to ebay, to then forward on to our buyers.  Frankly, that would be insane, imagine the logistical nightmare for ebay, trying to set up a system like that.

Instead of going off on a fantasy rant, just wait until the brown stuff hits the fan and make your decisions then, rationally, and with full knowledge.  I do agree that it's likely this system will put me off as well, but I'm not going to go ballistic over it.

Unfortunately, same for me. This was the worst year ever. I have over 10 years eBay store.

Re: Ebay Sales Completely Dead **November 2024** ‌

Personally I favour and prefer Royal Mail Special Delivery for most of the small to medium items I sell on eBay and I use ParcelForce for the heavier items and have had no problems.

However I do buy lots of stuff off eBay like old tools and electric motors and the odd item for my mum and I have had problems with heavy items being stuck for days with HERMES / EVRi  because the courier lady (most of them are women) refused to lift a 10 kg item and put it into her car !... so it just updates by saying something like "We're sorry your item has been delayed. We will have it on the move within the next 24 hours" and of course that was 1 week later before a man with a van finally delivered it !

Not to mention many items I bought that were sent by HERMES / EVRi which never arrived 😞

So it's all about experience and preference really.

I'm a 47 year old fella, not a dear ! 😠

I suspect it will be some setup like eBay's authentication guarantee program / eBay's global shipping program.

If this is the case then FORGET IT.

This is NOT for me.

I opted out of C&C as if the item wasn’t collected promptly (or the receiving store lost it!) you got an automatic item return via eBay. This was happening rather too often so we stopped offering it.

As for parcels under the car. I hope they don’t do that in NI.

I ordered some damp traps which came via RM but were put under rear bumper. No knock/ring/card and we were home all day, plus it was raining.
Went out in the evening to find a very soggy box as I pulled out of the drive. Fortunately everything inside was fine.

Couple of days later, same thing but under my son’s car, behind the rear wheel!! Luckily he spotted it as it was only a small box. Risk of damage/theft is quite high.

RM never used to dump parcels on the step or over a gate. It was left with neighbour or back to sorting office, not so now.

Not sure if that's the same name, maybe I got the wrong name.  I was referring to the excellent service RM provide, where I pay for postage and can opt for a free collection by my postie.

That other scheme, where you send your item to some place to await your buyer turning up for it, not doing so, and the outlet returns the item to you or destroys it...  No!  Just NO!  I will never use that, even though I can appreciate that for some buyers, away from home all day and with no suitable place for delivery, it could work well.  I would ask such a buyer to find a friend or neighbour and put their address into ebay.
