You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

The fact they take several days to ship items I have bought from them. Me, when I sell something I drop it off at the post office the same day a buyer pays if there is time or I pay to have it collected by the postie the next morning. Why do some sellers on eBay take 2 or 3 days?

Even more annoying is the seller is on holiday and hasn't told eBay.

Do sellers not realise they can go to the Royal Mail's website and pay for postage and even have the postie turn up with the shipping label or that they can take the parcel to the post office with a QR code and the post office can print out the shipping label for you?

Why take so long? Especially private sellers where you don't get your money until 2 days after delivery?

they are 'entitled' to what is offered and if that is 2, 3 or even 5 day delivery then that is what it is.  If you want next day delivery buy from someone who offers it!   As a buyer i buy after looking at ALL the information and i even allow an extra day or two for delivery as all couriers have their time problems.

The problem is that the ebay department for manipulations (special fudge-up division) has borked delivery expectations to match their view of past performance not the dispatch time the seller has configured + delivery time from carrier so the buyer doesn't have a proper understanding of what the seller and carrier have together offered.

You know what I find annoying about some buyers? They don't look at the dispatch date before paying. I am not driving out of my way to post a single item the day after it is ordered if I can wait another 2 days and post ten items at once (and still be within my '3 day dispatch' limit). Not everyone lives near shops.

What's worse are the overseas ones messaging that it's been a week (ie 5 working days) since they paid for the cheap postage option and their package still hasn't travelled 5000 miles from my house to theirs. Please have realistic expectations!

Re: You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

Reading the posts by some private sellers claiming they have no time in their busy lives to post an order  makes me wonder how they make any time to - answer a phone, send a text, buy a carton of milk - post on this forum and God forbid if they run out of tobacco, vapes, alcohol, paracetamol, need a prescription or carry out any other essential or social activity

I bet they find an immediate gap in their busy lives to nip to the shop or the pub or the cafe when it suits them -

Perhaps those that work could leave a few minutes earlier day or night, use part of their lunchbreak or get home 3 minutes later -  apparently not from what is written !

Not everybody lives near a shop. It's a 6-11 mile detour for me depending if I'm at work or at home, why should I be expected to make 5 visits a week to a post office when I can instead make 2 and still meet my advertised deadline of 3 day delivery? I'm guessing many of the people complaining about slow delivery don't understand that eBay advertises working days rather than actual days - Sat/Sun don't count.

You don't because you are dispatching in a timely manner within 3 days for private sellers -

However if you wanted to dispatch quicker you could albeit at your inconvenience but you don't have to you have compromised to meet buyer expectation  -

The post was aimed at those who basically state they are too busy to be bothered or don't want the inconvenience of completing a sale but want the money up front to spend.

Re: You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

We should make the PO open early or give up our lunch break just because you can't read the delivery dates? Nah. I have a 10 day dispatch to allow for times the postal service is behind and make the buyers that race the postie to open a INR case think twice about ordering from me, upsetting you is just a bonus

Re: You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

The nice thing about eBay is the wide variety of interesting, often unique items, sold by equally interesting, unique sellers.

Private sellers are, after all, amateur sellers. No-one should expect, or feel entitled to, immediate dispatch, or any sort of priority service from a private seller - unless that seller has stated they can offer next day dispatch, or whatever.

Those unable to post for a few days, or only once a week, are just as entitled to sell their items for a bit of pocket money, as anyone else - even though eBay is now making this very difficult - which is another issue...

As others have pointed out, people have all sorts of commitments & widely varying circumstances. Personally, I would not want anyone who may be very busy/stressed/elderly/disabled/live remotely etc, to bust a gut packing & posting an item that I could easily wait a few days for. Live & let live...

If it was something needed quickly, you'd buy it from a business offering same day/next day dispatch.  Otherwise, a bit of anticipation adds to the excitement of receiving an item - we don't have to buy into this modern curse of wanting everything yesterday.

Re: You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

I have my dispatch set at 10 working days, as there were far too many lighting fast claims when it didnt arrive after 3 days. I still send the day after the order and dont have a problem even now that second class mail takes up to 5 days. Gives me a bit of extra time if I cant locate an item as well. The odd buyer complains that they havnt had it quickly enough but that is normally because they didnt bother to check their  due delivery dates.

Re: You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

I always appreciate it if sellers offer a faster delivery option (that I pay for), and when I want something urgently I gravitate towards those sellers who offer the choice automatically at check-out, particularly those Saved Sellers whom I know do offer upgrades at check-out. "automatically" because I don't like to bother sellers by messaging them, and also you could wait enough time for a reply that it wipes out the faster option timescale.

Anyone can have something unusual or unexpected cropping up that prevents them shipping by an express method, but in ordinary life most sellers who offer it manage fine on the few occasions buyer selects it, or else contact the buyer to say sorry can't do it this time. Communication is key.

That's one aspect of SD I like, or rather would like if only it'd state which courier does the standard or faster, as I don't want Evri due to one or two recent bad experiences with them.

Perhaps you should stop making your arrogant assumptions against other sellers!

Re: You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

At a guess ebay will port more carriers as time goes on and they reach agreement - the stumbling block will be integration with ebay's system and demands - ebay are for sure looking for priority with the carriers  and why not given the volume potential -

It may end up with no carrier choice but several carriers being used - the same way Amazon started using Yodel DPD, Evri, Royal Mail and others under Amazon delivery - they just hide it better !

ebay by not using fulfillment have difficulty hiding the delivery agent - hence the outrage when sellers do not want to use a particular carrier !

You say your comments are aimed at those who basically say they are too busy etc, well what the heck does it matter what their reasons are (especially to you!)!  The point is that if they  have stated a certain amount of days and post within those dates then your comments are not only arrogant but irrelevant.

It matters to all sellers and buyers on ebay - when it affects their business be it buying one item or selling thousands.

The arrogance is the sellers who believe that customers do not matter and simply want the buyers money but do not want to put themselves out a little bit for the person paying them.

When private sellers publicly declare they have too busy a life (giving poor excuses) to service an order in a timely fashion - it has to be questioned !

Thankfully ebay have reacted to this attitude having given sellers ample opportunity and time to manage themselves and have been swayed by the number of dissatisfied buyers and the drop in members.

Of course it tars everyone with the same brush and some take it peronally - those that can't adjust will not be the good sellers already acting well towards buyers but those who simply don't want to and try to find reasons for acting badly !

Refresh your memory before making personal derogatory remarks with the number of posts in this tiny proportion of ebay members complaining about late dispatch, orders never posted, sellers telling buyers to claim off carriers or wait 14 days - items arriving damaged and sellers claiming they have been conned or scammed - it is awful seller behaviour - ebay have tried to get sellers to behave - now they are going to make them behave !

Is that such a bad thing ?

I hope you include Business Sellers in that and, hopefully, they'll apply the same punishment to them as they are doing to Private Sellers.

Such classroom behaviour shouldn't be tolerated from anyone.

Yup, I can only think some people have never had the real life responsibilities and pressures that make it difficult to be places whenever they want on a whim. It's actually quite frustrating knowing you have a sequence of things to do but cannot do them until whenever next you might next have moments of physical freedom at the right locations to do them.

Re: You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

I certainly include business sellers in that statement - If ebay made same day dispatch compulsory, refunds without return and held the money for 2 days or until delivered for business sellers I would support it - no question - it's what we do already !

- classroom behaviour - unfortunately some sellers need to be schooled !

ebay have tried to educate sellers but such is online selling many ignore the advice, blame everyone and everything else and then don't like it when they are forced to act responsibly

Yeah they need to be managed ! personally I think ebay are far too soft on them business or private

It's what you do already?

Then that's good, I'm pleased to hear that.

It certainly doesn't apply to "we" if you're referring to all business sellers.

The attitude of many (not all, but many) obvious business sellers on this Board is distastefully disdainful towards Private Sellers.

And that's from a buyer who certainly won't be buying from such businesses.

Perhaps eBay should go "Business Seller" only and see how it goes?

Oh wait, they did  - and what a success that was.

Re: You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

No unlike others we refers to our business when talking about our business  not the opinions of other members -  when referring to my opinion you will read I or my in my posts - it obviously needs explaining as you have misunderstood.

Re: You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

Private sellers are a completely different kettle of fish to business sellers. An elderly person selling off a few ornaments & knitting patterns should not be expected to operate like a business.

It is the introduction of the BPF that will be putting off buyers, not the dispatch time of private sellers, which should be as flexible as the individual seller needs it to be.

The only problems I've had with private - and business - sellers, are those who don't send the item at all!

I must have misunderstood because of the lack of clarity of context - especially as you're posting from a private account and not a business account.
